Director, LTL & Truckload | Cargomatic

Employment Type:Full-Time | On-Site | Experienced

Compensation: $150,000 -$180,000 depending on experience, skills, and location.

About the role
Cargomatic moves freight across full truckload, over-the-road, local, and LTL. This role owns how that freight gets moved. You will run daily transportation operations across every mode, keep carriers compliant and capacity covered, and own execution from awarded freight through on-time delivery. You will also price FTL and LTL opportunities as they come up, so a strong operator who can read a lane and build a smart quote will do well here. You will work across sales, dispatch, compliance, and customer service, and you will be the person accountable when freight has to move clean and on time.

What you will own

  • Transportation operations. Run daily operations for FTL, OTR, local, and LTL across multiple accounts, from awarded freight through final delivery. This is the core of the seat.
  • Carrier procurement and negotiation. Negotiate rates with asset-based carriers and third-party providers to protect margin without giving up service, and keep capacity covered when lanes tighten.
  • Carrier network and compliance. Own onboarding end to end: contracts, insurance verification, FMCSA and safety review, operating authority, W-9, and system setup. Keep an approved network of qualified carriers and brokers current on insurance, authority, safety ratings, and customer requirements.
  • Customer implementation. Move new accounts from awarded business to live operations, and own the handoff so nothing drops in the transition.
  • Cross-functional execution. Coordinate sales, operations, dispatch, compliance, and customer service so booking and delivery move as one flow. Resolve exceptions, service failures, claims, and escalations before they reach the customer.
  • Pricing support. Price FTL and LTL opportunities as they arise, reading lane history, market conditions, fuel, accessorials, and carrier capacity to build quotes that win and hold margin. Support RFQs, spot quotes, and bid requests, and lend pricing input on RFPs. Pricing is a piece of the job rather than the center of it. You still need to build a sound quote when a lane calls for one.
  • Systems and performance. Use the TMS, load boards, and carrier management platforms to optimize capacity and service. Own the KPIs that matter here: on-time pickup and delivery, carrier performance, cost per mile, and gross margin, and use them to drive process improvement rather than just report it.

What you bring

Required:

  • 7+ years in freight brokerage or transportation operations, including 3+ years in a leadership or senior role owning day-to-day execution and margin.
  • Deep operational command across FTL, OTR, local, and LTL, with a track record moving freight reliably across multiple accounts.
  • Carrier procurement and rate negotiation experience with asset-based carriers and 3PLs.
  • Working command of carrier compliance: FMCSA, operating authority, insurance verification, and safety ratings.
  • Comfort pricing FTL and LTL freight: lane analysis, market rates, accessorials, fuel, and capacity. You will not live in pricing, though you need to build a sound quote when a lane calls for one.
  • Proficiency in a TMS and load boards (DAT, Truckstop, or equivalent), plus strong Excel and data fluency.
  • Demonstrated cross-functional leadership across sales, operations, dispatch, and customer service.

Preferred:

  • LTL-specific depth: class-based rating, NMFC, and tariff work.
  • Experience in a tech-enabled or digital brokerage, comfortable working inside evolving tools rather than waiting on a finished system.
  • A history of building or improving pricing processes, playbooks, or tooling rather than running them as handed to you.
  • Enterprise customer implementation and onboarding experience.
  • Competitive medical, dental, and vision coverage.
  • 401(k) plan with company match.
  • Generous paid time off including vacation, sick time, and company holidays.
  • Employee assistance program and wellness resources.
  • Opportunities for professional growth and career development.
  • <
  • Collaborative, people-first culture focused on safety, compliance, and continuous improvement.
