The Loss Prevention Intern typically gains entry-level experience through internships, focusing on learning security procedures and assisting teams. The Loss Prevention Associate is a full-time role with more responsibilities in preventing theft and maintaining store security. Both roles are common in retail environments, but the intern position is more educational and temporary, while the associate role involves ongoing security duties.

What types of projects or tasks can a Loss Prevention Intern expect to be involved with during their internship?

As a Loss Prevention Intern, you can expect to participate in a variety of hands-on projects such as conducting store audits, assisting with inventory counts, monitoring surveillance footage, and supporting investigations into theft or policy violations. You may also help develop training materials for staff and collaborate with store management to identify and mitigate security risks. The role typically involves working closely with experienced Loss Prevention professionals, providing valuable exposure to industry-standard techniques and strategies.

What are Loss Prevention Interns?

Loss Prevention Interns are entry-level professionals who work within retail or corporate environments to support efforts in reducing theft, fraud, and other forms of loss. They assist experienced loss prevention staff by monitoring security systems, conducting audits, and helping implement safety policies. Interns gain hands-on experience in surveillance, investigation, and reporting, while learning about the legal and ethical aspects of asset protection. This role is valuable for those interested in pursuing careers in security, law enforcement, or risk management.

Is loss prevention a hard job?

Loss prevention internships typically involve monitoring for theft, conducting surveillance, and enforcing store policies, which can be physically and mentally demanding. The job requires attention to detail, good communication skills, and the ability to handle stressful situations, but the difficulty varies based on individual experience and work environment.

Does the FBI accept interns?

The FBI offers internship programs for students and recent graduates, including roles related to criminal justice, cybersecurity, and intelligence. These internships typically require U.S. citizenship, a minimum age of 16 or 18, and a strong academic record, with some positions requiring security clearances. Loss Prevention Interns are not typically associated with the FBI, as their focus is on retail security and theft prevention rather than federal law enforcement internships.

What are the big 4 internships?

The Big 4 internships typically refer to internship programs at Deloitte, PricewaterhouseCoopers (PwC), Ernst & Young (EY), and KPMG. These firms offer internships in areas such as audit, consulting, tax, and advisory, providing valuable experience for students pursuing careers in accounting, finance, and risk management, including roles like Loss Prevention Interns who may develop skills in fraud detection and security protocols.

Job description

About AACI Group

AACI Group, Inc. is dedicated to making insurance more accessible and affordable in catastrophe-prone regions. Climate change is increasing the frequency and severity of wildfires and other natural disasters, while carriers are retreating from high-risk markets. Homeowners are being left with fewer and more expensive options. We are addressing this challenge by building AI-native insurance and loss prevention solutions.

The Role

We're looking for a General Manager (GM) to own and grow the entire Loss Prevention Solutions (LPS) portfolio. This is a general manager role with real P&L responsibility, a startup-within-a-startup mandate, and the autonomy to build, acquire, or partner your way forward. If you've ever wanted to run a portfolio of mission-aligned products without starting from zero, this is it.

You'll take ownership of a suite of live and in-development loss prevention products:

  • FireFoil: aluminum-based wildfire structure wrap; think full building fire blankets: ready to scale

  • Wildfire Action Plan: AI-powered personalized wildfire preparedness app

  • Defensible Space Score: property-level wildfire defensibility rating tool

  • WiserBuild: building plan and materials assessment for insurance readiness

Each product is recognized as a standalone business and represents a piece of a larger connected ecosystem. Your job is to accelerate the growth for each of these while working to develop new and durable additions to the portfolio that contribute to our mission.

Key Responsibilities
  • Own Product + Growth

    • Set vision and strategy for each LPS product

    • Prioritize roadmaps and UX improvements -- use AI to iterate quickly

    • Drive engagement and revenue across the portfolio

    • Engage with other AACI subsidiaries to cross-sell and co-market

  • Build and Lead the Team

    • Recruit and manage MBA and undergraduate interns to own growth and/or UX for each brand

    • Operate a venture-studio-style model -- bring in hungry operators, give them a product, hold them accountable

    • Act as hiring manager and mentor for intern-level product leads across LPS brands

  • Expand the Portfolio

    • Develop new LPS concepts from scratch and/or identify acquisition opportunities and execute on acquiring them

    • Evaluate and integrate that fit the AACI loss prevention thesis

About You
  • A builder with operator instincts: You've run something, launched something, or been close enough to the action that you know what it takes

  • Search fund and/or founder energy: You're drawn to acquiring or inheriting a portfolio and turning it into something bigger

  • Comfort with ambiguity: Not everything is defined yet, and that excites you

  • Wildfire, climate, or insurance knowledge is a bonus: Intellectual curiosity about the space is required

  • Experience managing interns or early-career talent and getting real output from them

  • Willing to pursue the NFPA CWMS certification within the first 90 days

  • The blog post The “I”s of an Owner resonates with you and you professionally exhibit intensity, intuition, initiative and imagination

Location & Reporting
  • Based in either Greater Boston, MA, or Greater San Francisco Bay Area, CA.

  • Reports directly to the CEO of AACI Group, Inc.

Why Join Us

This is an opportunity to join a well-funded, early-stage startup and drive the creation of insurance and resilience products that directly address the climate crisis and help families remain in their homes.

Reasonable Accommodation

AACI Group, Inc. and its subsidiaries are committed to working with and providing reasonable accommodation to applicants with physical or mental disabilities. If you need assistance or accommodation during the application or recruiting process, please contact us at [HR email/phone].

Employment Status

All employment with AACI Group, Inc. and its subsidiaries is at-will. This means that either you or the company may terminate the employment relationship at any time, with or without cause or notice, subject to applicable law.

Our Mission
