Job description

Job Title: Logistics Supervisor (2pm)

Reports To: Logistics Manager / General Manager

FLSA Status: Exempt

Note: This operation runs 24/7, and individual schedules are determined by volume and client needs. Weekend availability is required and the facility is only closed three days each year.

Job Purpose

The Logistics Supervisor supports daily logistics and transportation operations, providing hands-on guidance to staff and ensuring efficient workflow execution. This role assists in planning, coordinating, and monitoring shipment activities while ensuring full compliance with WCD policies, SOPs, and all applicable regulations. The Logistics Supervisor plays a key role in customer service, carrier coordination, and maintaining smooth operational flow within the site.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities

(may include but are not limited to)

โ€ข Support day-to-day transportation operations, ensuring workflow accuracy and timely task execution.

โ€ข Enforce compliance with WCD Logistics Standard Operating Procedures (SOPs); ensure team members are trained and adhering to policies.

โ€ข Assist with load quote requests, ensuring accuracy, timely responses, and professional communication with customers (including Trader Joeโ€™s).

โ€ข Support Dispatch Agents with proper carrier selection, communication, and customer satisfaction.

โ€ข Provide timely shipment status updates to customers and internal teams.

โ€ข Serve as a point of contact for carriers; build strong relationships to expand the preferred carrier network.

โ€ข Ensure all documentation, comments, notes, and shipment updates are processed accurately and on time.

โ€ข Assist in negotiating rates with shippers and carriers when needed.

โ€ข Monitor and record carrier performance, reporting issues and collaborating with leadership to improve processes.

โ€ข Troubleshoot shipment-related issues and escalate concerns appropriately.

โ€ข Provide daily oversight, coaching, and performance guidance to staff under direction of the Logistics Manager.

โ€ข Lead by example in delivering strong customer service and maintaining a positive work environment.

โ€ข Step in as needed to support operational continuity during staff shortages or absences.

โ€ข Participate in meetings and support operations during weekends, holidays, or extended hours as required.

โ€ข Remain on-call for operational needs, emergencies, and after-hours concerns.

โ€ข Perform other duties as assigned.

Education and Experience Requirements

โ€ข Bachelorโ€™s degree in a related field or 3โ€“5 years of experience in transportation, logistics, brokerage, or 3PL operations.

โ€ข Minimum 1โ€“2 years of experience in a supervisory, team lead, or senior-level logistics role.

โ€ข Working knowledge of DOT regulations, vehicle capacity, and load specifications.

โ€ข Ability to work flexible schedules including nights, weekends, holidays, and overtime as needed.

โ€ข Demonstrated leadership abilities, including coaching, conflict resolution, and team development.

โ€ข Strong organizational and time-management skills.

โ€ข Ability to perform well under pressure in a fast-paced environment with frequent changes.

Computer System Skills

โ€ข Proficient in Microsoft Word, Excel, Outlook, and related applications.

โ€ข Experience with Transportation Management Systems (TMS) for load processing, quote management, and tracking.

โ€ข Preferred experience with TruckMate, PC Miler, Fleetmatics, or RoadNet.

โ€ข Strong analytical skills, with ability to extract and interpret data.

Reasoning & Communication Skills

โ€ข Ability to communicate effectively with all levels of leadership and frontline staff.

โ€ข Strong verbal and written communication skills; bilingual capabilities are a plus.

โ€ข Ability to lead and motivate a diverse workforce.

Physical Demands

โ€ข Ability to lift up to 10 lbs.

โ€ข Extended periods of sitting and computer use.

โ€ข Occasional stair climbing as required.
