Job description

Description:

About All In One Accounting

All In One Accounting is a 7-time winner of the 50 Fastest Growing Companies in the Twin Cities and one of the Best Places to Work in the Minneapolis area. Our purpose is simple: to make the lives of entrepreneurial and nonprofit leaders better. We do that by supporting profitable growth, protecting assets, and amplifying impact — bringing financial clarity and strategic leadership to the clients who need it most. We run on EOS (Entrepreneurial Operating System), which means clear goals, strong accountability, and a team that executes with intention.

The Managing Director Role at AIOA

At AIOA, the Managing Director is the senior leader of their industry practice — a business unit with its own P&L, its own team of CFOs, and its own book of clients. You report to the EVP, Operations and sit on the Operations leadership team. Your CFOs own individual client relationships; you own the practice system that produces excellent client outcomes at scale. The single owner of every client relationship is the CFO — your accountability is the quality of the team, the health of the practice, and the performance of the business unit you run.

About This Role

We're seeking a Managing Director to own and lead AIOA's Professional Services Practice — a business unit serving consulting firms, law practices, marketing agencies, staffing companies, and other expertise-driven businesses. You set the direction, lead the people, own the practice-level client outcomes, and are accountable for the full P&L of your business unit. You'll lead a team of CFOs who each own their own books of professional services clients. The practice's growth, profitability, team health, and client outcomes are yours.

Now About You

We hire for hungry, humble, and smart — and Managing Directors at AIOA bring those qualities at the highest level of individual practice ownership. Hungry means you're not just managing your practice — you're actively growing it, developing your people, and raising the bar for what great looks like. Humble means you share your expertise freely, take direction from the EVP even when you're the most experienced person in the room, and give credit generously. Smart means your CFOs and clients rely on your judgment for the most complex situations — and you've earned that trust by consistently delivering.

LMA Accountability

In EOS, LMA — Leadership, Management, and Accountability — is the framework through which every leader fulfills their people responsibilities. As a Managing Director, your LMA accountability covers your full practice team: you hire, develop, and retain talent, manage capacity proactively, and hold your CFOs accountable to their client and team outcomes. LMA is not a task — it is the core of your leadership role.

How Business Development Works at AIOA

At AIOA, business development is a team effort. A dedicated Business Development team handles lead generation and pipeline management. Your role in growth is different and complementary: you define the ideal client profile for your practice, serve as the subject matter expert who closes qualified opportunities that BD surfaces, drive expansion within your existing book, and build the external reputation that makes your practice the obvious choice in your industry. You are not expected to cold-call or run a pipeline. You are expected to be the most credible, connected, and trusted voice in your industry vertical.

Responsibilities & Expectations

Client Portfolio Leadership & Escalation Management

• Own the full client portfolio of the Professional Services Practice at the practice level — retention, satisfaction, NPS, and expansion opportunities

• The single owner of every client relationship is the CFO — your accountability is the practice system and team performance that makes those outcomes possible

• Serve as the escalation management point for complex or at-risk client situations that exceed the CFO level

• Set and maintain quality standards for professional service financial advisory work including utilization analysis, revenue recognition accuracy, billing efficiency, and cash flow management

• Drive expansion of services within the existing book through your CFOs

• Define the ideal client profile for the Professional Services Practice and partner with the Business Development team

• Serve as the subject matter expert closer for qualified professional service prospects surfaced by the Business Development team

• Deliver workbook analysis and Value Workshops to clients — providing strategic financial perspective at the practice level

• Develop and grow strategic partnerships in the professional services sector — with attorneys, bankers, and professional services networks

LMA — Leadership, Management & Accountability

• LMA: hire, develop, and retain talent across your practice — you are accountable for building and maintaining a high-performing team of CFOs

• Manage capacity proactively — ensuring your practice is neither overwhelmed nor underutilized

• Hold your CFOs accountable to their client outcomes, team health metrics, and EOS commitments

• Create career pathways and development plans for CFOs, Senior Controllers, Controllers, Senior Accountants, and Accountants within the practice

• Foster a culture of Commitment, Foresight, Relationships, Tenacity, and Teamwork within the Professional Services Practice

• Partner with Talent on hiring decisions for your practice team

Practice P&L & Business Performance

• Own the full P&L of the Professional Services Practice — revenue, cost management, profitability, and budget accountability

• Develop and execute the annual practice plan including growth targets, hiring plans, and service delivery goals

• Report on practice performance to the EVP, Operations through EOS tools including Scorecard, Rocks, and L10 meetings

• Drive process improvements and best practices that elevate professional service delivery across the firm

Thought Leadership & Strategic Partnerships

• Build and maintain AIOA's external reputation in the professional services sector — speaking at industry events, contributing to relevant publications, and developing key referral partnerships

• Stay current on service-based business models, billing trends, partner economics, pricing strategy, and M&A activity

• Champion technology standards within the Professional Services Practice

• Identify and advocate for new service lines or delivery approaches that could strengthen the practice

Internal Responsibilities

• Complete all internal responsibilities including training, to do's, and quarterly rocks

• Actively participate in All In One Accounting's Brand Ambassador program, representing our mission and values

• Uphold security practices to protect client assets and firm data effectively

Requirements:

The Successful Candidate Will Have

• Bachelor's degree in accounting, finance, or other related field (CPA strongly preferred)

• Experience in a multi-client or Client Accounting Services (CAS) environment strongly preferred

• 12–15+ years of progressive experience in accounting and financial leadership for professional service businesses

• Proven track record of LMA — leading, managing, and holding teams accountable to outcomes

• Deep expertise in service-based business models, utilization and realization metrics, billing structures, and revenue recognition

• Demonstrated experience owning client portfolios and practice-level business outcomes

• P&L ownership or business unit management experience strongly preferred

• Established presence or network in the professional services sector with credibility to represent AIOA externally

• Excellence in executive-level communication with business owners, partners, and external advisors

• Experience in or strong familiarity with EOS (Entrepreneurial Operating System) preferred
