Join Mainstay Supportive Housing and Home Care, Inc. as a Live-In Mentor in Newton Center, MA! This opportunity is ideal for applicants who are comfortable sharing an apartment with another Live-In Mentor  while providing guidance and support to individuals with mild to moderate developmental disabilities who are members of a Residential Group Home Community.

About Mainstay

Since 1975, Mainstay Supportive Housing and Home Care, Inc. has been dedicated to providing housing and human services across Massachusetts. Our programs support individuals with mental illness, developmental disabilities, low-income elders, and those who have recently experienced homelessness. W believe in fostering supportive communities where everyone can thrive.

Your Role & Responsibilities

As a Live-In Mentor, you will reside in a shared apartment attached to a residential group home and provide overnight support for adults with mild to moderate developmental disabilities when there is an active emergency. While you are not required to stay awake overnight, you and your roommate (another Live-In Mentor) must coordinate who will be the designated overnight contact each night in case of emergencies.

Your key responsibilities include:

  • Overnight Presence – One Live-In Mentor must be designated as the on-call emergency contact each night.
  • Coordinating Overnight Duties – Work with your roommate to ensure coverage and fair scheduling.
  • Helping with Morning & Evening Routines – Support residents with daily living tasks such as meal preparation, medication reminders, and personal hygiene.
  • Ensuring a Safe Living Environment – Secure the building and respond to any emergencies.
  • Weekend Support (2 shifts per month) – Provide structured support to residents.
  • Being a Positive Role Model – Foster a sense of community and inclusion.

Your Living Space

  • Shared Apartment: You will have your own private bedroom while sharing a kitchen, living room, and bathroom with another Live-In Mentor
  • On-Site Convenience: The apartment is directly attached to the group home, allowing you to provide support while maintaining your own space.
  • Commuter-Friendly: MBTA accesible (Newton Center, green line), parking and on-site laundry available.

Who Would Be a Great Fit?

  • Empathetic & Compassionate – You care about supporting individuals with disabilities.
  • Responsible & Reliable – You can commit to being on-site overnight.
  • Team-Oriented & Communicative – You can coordinate with a roommate to ensure emergency coverage.
  • Seeking Affordable Housing – This position provides reduced-cost living.

Who We're Looking For:

We welcome applicants who are passionate about community, supportive environments, and mentorship. Ideal candidates should:

  • Have previous experience working with individuals with developmental disabilities (preferred but not required).
  • Be comfortable sharing an apartment with another Live-In Mentor
  • Possess strong communication and interpersonal skills.
  • Be able to handle overnight emergencies and prioritize resident safety.
  • Foster a welcoming, inclusive, and supportive home environment.

Why Join Mainstay?

  •  Meaningful work where you help others gain independence.
  •  A comfortable live-in housing arrangement with a private bedroom.
  • MBTA accesible (Newton Center, green line), parking, and laundry included—saving you on living costs!
  • Be part of a compassionate, supportive community.
