Search & Comparison IntentHigh overlap, often compared for career progression

While both Litigation Associates and Litigation Attorneys hold similar credentials and work in comparable environments, the term Litigation Associate is often used for early-career roles within law firms or corporate legal teams. Litigation Attorneys may be a broader or more formal designation, but in many contexts, they are interchangeable. The key difference lies in the job title's usage rather than responsibilities or qualifications.

What are some typical challenges Litigation Associates face when managing multiple cases simultaneously?

Litigation Associates often juggle several cases at once, which requires strong organizational and time management skills. Balancing competing deadlines for court filings, discovery, and client communications can be challenging, especially during peak litigation periods. Associates must also coordinate with partners, paralegals, and opposing counsel, making effective communication crucial. Developing systems to prioritize tasks and manage workload efficiently is key to success in this fast-paced environment.

What is a Litigation Associate?

A Litigation Associate is a junior attorney who works at a law firm or legal department, primarily handling cases that involve disputes between parties. They assist with tasks such as legal research, drafting pleadings and motions, managing discovery, and representing clients in court under the supervision of more senior attorneys. Litigation Associates often work on a variety of cases, including civil, commercial, and sometimes criminal matters, and are responsible for keeping cases on track and supporting clients throughout the litigation process.

What are the key skills and qualifications needed to thrive as a Litigation Associate, and why are they important?

To thrive as a Litigation Associate, you need strong legal research, writing, and analytical skills, typically supported by a Juris Doctor (JD) degree and bar admission. Familiarity with legal research databases such as Westlaw or LexisNexis and proficiency in case management software are essential. Exceptional communication, attention to detail, and the ability to manage time effectively distinguish top performers in this role. These skills are crucial for building persuasive cases, meeting tight deadlines, and achieving successful outcomes for clients in a competitive legal environment.

Description:

At Hensley Legal Group, every client walks away with more than legal representation—they walk away with someone who truly advocated for them during one of the most difficult times in their life. As a Personal Injury Litigation Paralegal, your precision, communication, and drive help move cases forward and make a meaningful impact on every client you support.

You’ll work alongside a team that is deeply committed to making a difference. Whether you’re guiding a client through the litigation process, keeping critical deadlines on track, or partnering closely with attorneys to prepare for mediation or trial, your work plays a vital role in delivering results.

We’re looking for someone who thrives in a detail-driven environment and understands that strong communication and follow-through are key to success. Our team values collaboration, accountability, and the balance between high performance and a supportive workplace.

Your impact:

Your ownership of each case helps ensure nothing falls through the cracks. From managing discovery and coordinating depositions to maintaining consistent client communication, your work keeps cases progressing efficiently and strategically. Your ability to stay organized and proactive helps turn complex litigation into successful outcomes for our clients.

What you’ll be doing:

  • Managing litigation deadlines, including setting reminders for motions, pleadings, discovery, and court requirements. Drafting and filing standard motions and pleadings in a timely manner.
  • Completing and coordinating discovery, including plaintiff discovery, standard discovery to defendants, and non-party discovery (e.g., cell phone carriers, defense experts, insurance carriers).
  • Preparing medical binders and organizing evidence for mediation and trial.
  • Scheduling depositions and mediation.
  • Verifying and addressing potential liens.
  • Ensuring all discovery is received and answered prior to depositions.
  • Delegating medical records, billing, and balance requests to the Legal Assistant and overseeing follow-through.
  • Reviewing incoming mail and ensuring appropriate action or attorney review.
  • Maintaining detailed case notes in the case management system in accordance with firm procedures.
  • Following established trial preparation checklists and notifying the Litigation Attorney of any case developments or concerns.
  • Closing cases in the system upon final settlement or satisfaction of judgment.
Requirements:

Who you are:

You’re highly organized, proactive, and comfortable managing multiple priorities at once. You understand the importance of deadlines and accuracy in litigation and take pride in keeping everything running smoothly. You communicate clearly and professionally with clients, attorneys, and external partners, and you’re motivated to take ownership of your work.

What you bring:

  • Experience with and knowledge of Illinois law is required
  • High School Diploma or GED required; Associate’s or Bachelor’s degree preferred
  • Prior legal experience, especially in personal injury litigation, strongly preferred
  • Proven ability to manage deadlines, documentation, and client communication

Why you’ll love it here:

  • A comprehensive benefits package including medical, dental, vision, PTO, 401k, paid parental leave, and pet benefits
  • A flexible full-time schedule built around core hours
  • A collaborative, in-office environment
  • The opportunity to build a meaningful career while making a real impact on people’s lives

If you’re ready to take ownership of cases, support meaningful litigation work, and grow your career as a Personal Injury Litigation Paralegal, we’d love to meet you. Special consideration will be given to resumes submitted with a cover letter.
