Impact Litigation information

What are some common challenges faced by professionals working in impact litigation, and how can they be managed?

Professionals in impact litigation often face challenges such as lengthy case timelines, complex legal research, and balancing large caseloads with limited resources. Cases may require coordination with multiple stakeholders, including clients, advocacy groups, and expert witnesses, which can add layers of complexity. To manage these challenges, impact litigators typically rely on strong organizational skills, clear communication, and teamwork within specialized legal teams. Regular collaboration and strategic planning help ensure cases are handled efficiently and effectively.

What is impact litigation?

Impact litigation refers to legal cases brought with the goal of creating significant changes in society, often by setting legal precedents or influencing public policy. Unlike traditional lawsuits that focus on resolving individual disputes, impact litigation aims to address broader systemic issues such as civil rights, environmental protection, or social justice. Lawyers and organizations involved in impact litigation carefully select cases that have the potential to benefit large groups of people or drive legal reform. This approach often involves strategic planning, coalition-building, and public advocacy in addition to courtroom work.

What is the difference between Impact Litigation vs Public Interest Litigation?

AspectImpact LitigationPublic Interest Litigation
FocusLegal cases aiming for broad societal change, often involving constitutional or policy issuesLegal actions addressing social, environmental, or community issues affecting the public
Work EnvironmentLaw firms, NGOs, or government agencies specializing in strategic litigationNonprofits, advocacy groups, or government agencies
CredentialsLaw degree, bar admission, experience in litigationLaw degree, bar admission, often with a focus on social justice or policy

Impact Litigation and Public Interest Litigation both involve legal work aimed at societal betterment. Impact Litigation typically targets broad policy or constitutional issues through strategic cases, often in law firms or NGOs. Public Interest Litigation focuses on specific social or environmental issues affecting communities, usually within nonprofit or advocacy settings. While both require legal credentials, Impact Litigation emphasizes strategic case selection for societal impact, whereas Public Interest Litigation centers on community or environmental concerns.

What are the key skills and qualifications needed to thrive in Impact Litigation, and why are they important?

To thrive in Impact Litigation, you need a strong legal background, typically a Juris Doctor (JD) degree, bar admission, and expertise in constitutional or civil rights law. Familiarity with legal research databases like Westlaw or LexisNexis, and experience with case management systems are important technical tools. Exceptional written and oral advocacy, strategic thinking, and a passion for social justice are key soft skills that distinguish impactful litigators. These skills and qualities are crucial for successfully navigating complex cases, influencing legal precedents, and achieving meaningful change through the legal system.

Job description

Description:

At Hensley Legal Group, every client walks away with more than legal representationโ€”they walk away with someone who truly advocated for them during one of the most difficult times in their life. As a Personal Injury Litigation Paralegal, your precision, communication, and drive help move cases forward and make a meaningful impact on every client you support.

What youโ€™ll love about this role:

Youโ€™ll work alongside a team that is deeply committed to making a difference. Whether youโ€™re guiding a client through the litigation process, keeping critical deadlines on track, or partnering closely with attorneys to prepare for mediation or trial, your work plays a vital role in delivering results.

Weโ€™re looking for someone who thrives in a detail-driven environment and understands that strong communication and follow-through are key to success. Our team values collaboration, accountability, and the balance between high performance and a supportive workplace.

Your impact:

Your ownership of each case helps ensure nothing falls through the cracks. From managing discovery and coordinating depositions to maintaining consistent client communication, your work keeps cases progressing efficiently and strategically. Your ability to stay organized and proactive helps turn complex litigation into successful outcomes for our clients.

What youโ€™ll be doing:

Youโ€™ll serve as a central point of coordination for active litigation cases, including:

  • Serving as the clientโ€™s primary point of contact, conducting status calls every 30โ€“45 days to check on treatment and provide case updates.
  • Managing litigation deadlines, including setting reminders for motions, pleadings, discovery, and court requirements. Drafting and filing standard motions and pleadings in a timely manner.
  • Completing and coordinating discovery, including plaintiff discovery, standard discovery to defendants, and non-party discovery (e.g., cell phone carriers, defense experts, insurance carriers).
  • Preparing medical binders and organizing evidence for mediation and trial.
  • Scheduling depositions and mediation.
  • Verifying and addressing potential liens.
  • Ensuring all discovery is received and answered prior to depositions.
  • Delegating medical records, billing, and balance requests to the Legal Assistant and overseeing follow-through.
  • Reviewing incoming mail and ensuring appropriate action or attorney review.
  • Maintaining detailed case notes in the case management system in accordance with firm procedures.
  • Following established trial preparation checklists and notifying the Litigation Attorney of any case developments or concerns.
  • Closing cases in the system upon final settlement or satisfaction of judgment.
Requirements:

Who you are:

Youโ€™re highly organized, proactive, and comfortable managing multiple priorities at once. You understand the importance of deadlines and accuracy in litigation and take pride in keeping everything running smoothly. You communicate clearly and professionally with clients, attorneys, and external partners, and youโ€™re motivated to take ownership of your work.

What you bring:

  • High School Diploma or GED required; Associateโ€™s or Bachelorโ€™s degree preferred
  • Prior legal experience, especially in personal injury litigation, strongly preferred
  • Proven ability to manage deadlines, documentation, and client communication

Why youโ€™ll love it here:

Youโ€™ll be part of a team that values your contributions and supports your growth. We offer:

  • A comprehensive benefits package including medical, dental, vision, PTO, 401k, paid parental leave, and pet benefits
  • A flexible full-time schedule built around core hours
  • A collaborative, in-office environment
  • The opportunity to build a meaningful career while making a real impact on peopleโ€™s lives

If youโ€™re ready to take ownership of cases, support meaningful litigation work, and grow your career as a Personal Injury Litigation Paralegal, weโ€™d love to meet you. Special consideration will be given to resumes submitted with a cover letter.
