Job description

Position Summary

The Senior Construction Estimator prepares accurate, competitive cost estimates for commercial, industrial, civil, and concrete construction projects. This role supports the full estimating process, from bid invitation through proposal submission, and partners closely with operations, project management, subcontractors, vendors, and clients to support successful project pursuits and profitable delivery.

The successful candidate will bring substantial construction estimating experience, strong analytical skills, sound judgment, and the ability to manage multiple estimates while supporting and mentoring members of the estimating team.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities

Estimating and Bid Preparation

ยทย ย ย ย ย ย ย  Prepare conceptual, schematic, design development, and final construction estimates.

ยทย ย ย ย ย ย ย  Review drawings, specifications, geotechnical reports, contracts, and other project documents to confirm scope, requirements, and potential risks.

ยทย ย ย ย ย ย ย  Perform complete quantity takeoffs using company-approved estimating software.

ยทย ย ย ย ย ย ย  Solicit, review, and evaluate subcontractor and supplier quotes for accuracy, completeness, and competitiveness.

ยทย ย ย ย ย ย ย  Develop labor, equipment, material, subcontractor, and production cost estimates.

ยทย ย ย ย ย ย ย  Prepare bid proposals, pricing strategies, clarifications, assumptions, exclusions, and qualifications.

Risk Review and Coordination

ยทย ย ย ย ย ย ย  Identify project risks, constructability concerns, value engineering opportunities, and cost-saving alternatives.

ยทย ย ย ย ย ย ย  Coordinate with operations, project managers, superintendents, leadership, subcontractors, suppliers, and vendors throughout the bidding process.

ยทย ย ย ย ย ย ย  Attend pre-bid meetings, site visits, and client presentations, as required.

ยทย ย ย ย ย ย ย  Assist with contract negotiations, as assigned.

Project Handoff and Continuous Improvement

ยทย ย ย ย ย ย ย  Maintain estimating databases, track historical cost data, monitor bid results, and evaluate estimating performance to support continuous improvement.

Leadership and Team Support

ยทย ย ย ย ย ย ย  Provide guidance, training, and support to junior estimators and estimating assistants.

ยทย ย ย ย ย ย ย  Prepare estimates in accordance with company standards, client requirements, and established deadlines.

Quality Assurance

ยทย ย ย ย ย ย ย  Recommend and implement improvements that strengthen quality, productivity, and consistency.

Qualifications

Required Qualifications

ยทย ย ย ย ย ย ย  10+ years of commercial construction estimating experience.

ยทย ย ย ย ย ย ย  Experience estimating projects ranging from $100,000 to more than $10 million.

ยทย ย ย ย ย ย ย  Strong knowledge of commercial construction, heavy civil construction, site development, concrete construction, structural concrete and ย utilities.

ยทย ย ย ย ย ย ย  Ability to read and interpret construction drawings, specifications, contracts and civil plans.

Preferred Qualifications

ยทย ย ย ย ย ย ย  Bachelorโ€™s degree in Construction Management, Civil Engineering, Engineering, or a similar field; equivalent experience may be considered.
