What are local internet registries?

LIRs, or Local Internet Registries, are organizations—often Internet Service Providers (ISPs) or large enterprises—that manage the distribution and registration of IP addresses and other resources within a specific region. They receive these resources from a Regional Internet Registry (RIR) and then allocate them to their customers or internal networks. LIRs play a crucial role in maintaining accurate records of IP address assignments and ensuring compliance with regional policies. Their responsibilities include keeping customer data up to date and helping prevent IP address exhaustion through responsible management.

Additionally, LIRS professionals must often advocate for their clients' needs within larger healthcare systems, which can involve navigating complex protocols or resource limitations. Building strong relationships and maintaining open communication channels are essential for successful collaboration and optimal patient outcomes.
