Job description

Bulk Liquid Terminal Operator

Department: Supply Chain
Reports To: Operations Manager

Compensation: $20โ€“$22 per hour

Schedule: 1st shift, Mondayโ€“Friday, 6:00 a.m. โ€“ 4:00 p.m.

A day in this role

You clock in at dawn, step onto the open-air terminal, and scan the rail lineup. Before the first transfer begins, you confirm railcars are properly spotted and secured, test valves and pumps, and inspect hoses and gauges. As product moves, you track temperatures and tank levels from start to finishโ€”steaming a railcar when heat is required to keep viscosity in check. Between transfers, you patrol the tank farm, verify alarms and pressure relief systems are in good order, and pump rainwater from containment dikes to preserve spill capacity. If anything looks offโ€”corrosion, a seep, an abnormal readingโ€”you stop, communicate, and correct. Safety and environmental stewardship set the pace of your day.

What youโ€™ll handle
  • Load and unload bulk liquid chemicals from railcars and tanker trucks using pumps, valves, hoses, and transfer systems.
  • Spot, secure, and unload railcars per terminal procedures; monitor product flow, temperature, and tank levels throughout transfers.
  • Steam railcars as needed to maintain proper product temperature; assist with blending or product prep when required.
  • Oversee tank farm integrity: above-ground tanks, pits, and secondary containment (dikes).
  • Inspect tank alarms, sight gauges, valves, and pressure relief devices; ensure structures remain sound.
  • Pump accumulated water from containment areas to maintain mandated spill capacity.
  • Recognize and immediately report leaks, corrosion, or abnormal conditions.
Safety, environment, and compliance
  • Follow all hazardous materials procedures, SOPs, and PPE requirements (respirators, chemical suits, gloves, eye protection).
  • Adhere to DOT, OSHA, EPA, PHMSA, and company safety standards.
  • Participate in spill prevention, emergency response, and ongoing safety training.
  • Maintain audit- and inspection-readiness at all times.
Work setting
  • Primarily outdoors; this is not a traditional enclosed warehouse role.
  • Regular exposure to weather, industrial equipment, and hazardous materials.
  • Physical activity includes walking, climbing stairs/ladders, bending, kneeling, and standing for extended periods.
  • Remain calm and professional under pressure.
What you bring
  • High school diploma or equivalent.
  • Comfort working outdoors in all weather.
  • Ability to lift up to 50 lbs and perform hands-on tasks.
  • Keen attention to detail and a strong safety mindset.
  • Ability to follow written procedures and verbal direction.
  • Willingness to work around hazardous materials.
