Fleet Mechanic

Location: Rhode Island
Pay: $30–$40/hour (DOE)

Schedule
Spring–Fall: Monday–Friday, 7:00 AM–4:00 PM (or as assigned)
Winter: On-call during snow and ice events, including nights, weekends, and holidays as needed.

Coastal Companies is looking for an experienced Fleet Mechanic to help keep our trucks, trailers, landscaping equipment, and snow removal fleet operating safely and efficiently. This is a full-time, year-round position with competitive pay and the opportunity to work on a wide variety of equipment.

As a Fleet Mechanic, you'll play an important role in keeping our operations running by maintaining and repairing the equipment our crews rely on every day. From Ford Super Duty trucks and commercial trailers to zero-turn mowers, skid steers, loaders, snowplows, and spreaders, no two days are the same.

Key Responsibilities
  • Perform preventative maintenance and repairs on company vehicles and equipment.
  • Diagnose and repair gasoline and diesel engines.
  • Service Ford trucks, commercial trailers, and fleet vehicles.
  • Troubleshoot and repair hydraulic, electrical, steering, suspension, braking, driveline, and cooling systems.
  • Perform engine diagnostics using scan tools.
  • Maintain and repair commercial landscaping equipment, including mowers, trimmers, blowers, chainsaws, and edgers.
  • Install, remove, inspect, and repair snowplows, spreaders, and liquid de-icing equipment.
  • Maintain skid steers, loaders, and other heavy equipment.
  • Complete monthly fleet inspections, annual equipment inspections, and maintain accurate maintenance records.
  • Keep the shop clean, organized, and OSHA compliant while assisting with inventory and parts management.
  • Respond to emergency repairs during winter snow and ice operations.
Qualifications
  • 3–5 years of experience maintaining commercial fleet vehicles, heavy equipment, or similar equipment.
  • Technical or vocational training in automotive, diesel, or heavy equipment repair is preferred.
  • Strong understanding of gasoline and diesel engines.
  • Experience diagnosing hydraulic, electrical, and mechanical systems.
  • Valid driver's license required; CDL preferred but not required.
  • Welding and fabrication experience is a plus.
  • Comfortable lifting up to 75 pounds and working indoors and outdoors in varying weather conditions.

  • Fisher plows and de-icing equipment
  • Salt spreaders and liquid de-icing equipment

  • Preventative maintenance software
