Besides their beauty, they are relatively easy to grow and require minimal maintenance once established.

What is the difference between Lilac vs Floral Designer?

AspectLilacFloral Designer
Required CredentialsNone specific, often basic floral knowledgeFloristry certification or floral design courses often preferred
Work EnvironmentGardens, nurseries, or retail floral shopsFlorist shops, event venues, or freelance
Industry UsageHorticulture, gardening, and landscapingEvent planning, retail floral sales, and custom arrangements

While Lilac refers to a flowering shrub often associated with gardening and horticulture, a Floral Designer specializes in creating floral arrangements for events and retail. The main difference lies in their focus: Lilac is a plant, whereas a Floral Designer works with various flowers to craft decorative pieces. Both roles may require knowledge of flowers, but Floral Designers typically have formal training and work in customer-facing environments, while Lilac-related work is more plant cultivation and gardening-oriented.

If youโ€™re passionate about helping students find their voice โ€” and you thrive in environments that value teamwork, innovation, and whole-child learning โ€” weโ€™d love to meet you.

Position Summary

The Speech-Language Pathologist (SLP) plays a key role in improving studentsโ€™ communication, independence, and quality of life. This role provides diagnostic, therapeutic, and consultative services to students with communication disorders that impact their educational performance. The SLP develops and implements individualized treatment plans focused on receptive/expressive language, articulation, fluency, voice, pragmatic/social communication, and AAC supports.

Youโ€™ll work closely with teachers, BCBAs, OTs, and families to ensure communication strategies are embedded across learning environments โ€” so students can use their skills where they matter most.

  • Conduct comprehensive communication evaluations using standardized tools and classroom observations

  • Develop and monitor IEP goals aligned with student needs and educational outcomes

  • Provide individual, group, consultative, and classroom-embedded SLP services

Collaboration & Training

  • Participate in IEP meetings, family consultations, and eligibility conferences

  • Coach and train classroom teams and families on communication strategies and AAC systems

  • Support generalization of communication skills across environments and communication partners

Program & Operations
  • Maintain timely documentation and service delivery

  • Help develop visual supports, cueing systems, and classroom tools that promote independence

  • Contribute to professional development and serve as a subject-matter resource

  • Perform additional duties aligned with Lilac Learning Centerโ€™s mission

  • Assessing a new student

  • Leading direct therapy sessions

  • Modeling social language facilitation in the classroom

  • Training teams on AAC tools

  • Writing documentation and progress notes

  • Joining a collaborative IEP planning meeting

SLPs at Lilac are valued contributors โ€” clinically, educationally, and as communicators of hope and skill for students and families.
