Purpose
The Digitization Student Technical Assistant will work with UT Libraries' Digitization Services to support the specialized reformatting of UTL collection materials. This position's goal is to increase access to rare, fragile, obsolete, and/or oversized library materials, and to play a key role in the preservation of said items. Digitization creates a digital copy of research materials and at-risk items, thus improving access and serving as a key preservation tool.
For Fall 2025, the majority of work will focus on digitizing bound print materials and performing optical character recognition quality control.
Responsibilities
  • Reformatting print materials using a range of equipment and scanners.
  • Performing image quality control checks.
  • Ensuring optical character recognition (OCR) quality.
  • Metadata management
  • Detailed task tracking.
  • Reformatting audiovisual materials occasionally

Required Qualifications
  • UT Austin student enrolled in 6 or more credits for Fall 2025.
  • Student must be in good academic standing.
  • Work independently and demonstrate a positive attitude.
  • Have extreme attention to detail and care in handling fragile materials and equipment.
  • Have strong organizational skills.
  • Manage time and communicate effectively.
  • Be willing to learn and work with a range of computer and scanning hardware environments and software applications.
  • Remain focused while performing repetitive tasks.

Relevant education and experience may be substituted as appropriate.
Preferred Qualifications
  • Enjoy creative problem solving and taking on new and increasingly challenging projects.
  • Prior digitization experience is not required, but familiarity with photo editing software is a plus.

Salary Range
$15/hour
Working Conditions
  • Regular indoor working conditions.

Work Shift
  • 10-12 hours per week as arranged with supervisor: Monday - Friday between 9:00 AM - 5:00 PM
