The Library Services Assistant manages the Carroll University Library during night and weekend hours of operation. A typical week during the regular academic year may include one or two weekday nights from between 4pm and 6pm to 11pm with additional hours on Saturday and/or Sunday.
Responsibilities:
  • Assist library users in finding information and materials using the library catalog, databases, and other online resources via in-person, online chat, email, and phone.
  • Supervise student workers at the Circulation Desk, Information Commons Desk, and Library Classroom during assigned shift.
  • Close or open the library, depending on shift.
  • Assist library users with computers and software.
  • Enforce the library's policies.
  • Other clerical and library duties as assigned.

Qualifications:
Education and/or Experience:
  • Associate's degree required; bachelor's degree preferred.
  • Two to four years in customer service and/or library experience.

Technology Skills:
  • Competent and comfortable in use of computers and software such as Microsoft Office and/or Google Drive.
  • Experience with research assistance preferred.

Human Relations Skills:
  • Excellent customer service skills.
  • Communicate effectively in both oral and written form.
  • Ability to multi-task and work independently.
  • Ability to work effectively with people regardless of their age, gender, race, sexual orientation, ethnicity, religion, ability, socio-economic background, or job type.

Other Requirements:
  • Shift changes and/or weekend work may be required by your supervisor based on departmental and University needs.
  • Candidates must be willing and able to support and advance the University mission.
