Job description

This is a 1099 Independent Contractor role with no benefits. Compensation is $40/hour. Location is onsite at the client's location in Rochester NY. If you agree to these terms, please proceed with your application. Becomes Contract-To-Hire after 6-12 months.

Role: Operator Production Control

Location: 400 West Avenue, Rochester New York 14611

Work Time: 6:30AM-3:30PM

JOB SUMMARY:

The Production Control Analyst is responsible for managing and maintaining production schedules using automated scheduling software.

This role ensures the smooth implementation of test elements into the production environment and resolves production batch failures.

The analyst will work closely with the production control team to ensure all critical business-related jobs are completed on schedule.

MAJOR ROLES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:

Must Have

  • Ensure critical batch metrics are met nightly.
  • Prepare and maintain production schedules using automated scheduling tools such as UC4 (Automation Engine), Autosys, and Control-M.
  • Schedule off-hours production requests and maintain schedule information.
  • Utilize appropriate software tools to enhance system performance and monitor the production batch environment.
  • Assist in developing and ensuring adherence to Production Support standards and procedures.
  • Work independently on assigned projects related to Production Support.
  • Provide technical assistance to applications and computer operations areas.
  • Troubleshoot scheduling tool outages with other IT teams, understanding the tool's architecture.
  • Work with complex job streams or workflows and identify problems within them.
  • Work with Windows, UNIX, and have basic scripting knowledge (bash or batch).
  • Integrate automation tools with business applications such as SAP and ERP.
  • Schedule and or execute the SAP transports.
  • Understand compliance and audit requirements and maintain necessary documentation.
  • Respond to queries and document new and existing implementations.
  • Implement changes related to report distribution software.
  • Continuously improve processes by minimizing job failures or finding more effective solutions.

Nice to Have:

  • Ensure the integrity of production JCL libraries and implement test JCL members into the production environment.
  • Move test elements into the production environment within the required timeframe.
  • Identify root causes and provide permanent resolutions to production failures.
  • Understand new business requirements and implement them through automation.
  • Plan for scheduled system outages.
  • Maintain annual calendar and batch parameters.
  • Participate in disaster recovery exercises.

JOB REQUIREMENTS:

Skills/Abilities:

  • Strong oral, written, and communication skills.
  • Ability to multi-task and manage time effectively.
  • Willingness to learn new tools and processes.

Experience/Training:

  • 5-7 years of experience in Computer Operations, with at least 2 years in Production Control.
  • Thorough knowledge of Unix/AIX/Wintel Operating systems.
  • Thorough knowledge of IBM utilities.
  • Knowledge of scripting using UC4 and Shell.
  • Basic understanding of SAP is required.

Education:

  • Associate degree in a technical field or equivalent experience.

Preferred Experience:

  • Experience with FTP/SFTP, encryption, and Amazon S3 Bucket.
  • Knowledge of cloud technologies.
  • Migration experience to Control-M is a plus.

Additional Information:

  • This role is not for software engineering or QA analysts who use automation to test code. It requires prior experience with Autosys or CA Automic (Automation Engine, UC4) or both. Alternatives include Control-M and Stonebranch.
  • On-call availability and the ability to work on day-to-day operational tasks with incident and change management are required.
  • Participation in problem management and provide the necessary corrective and preventive actions is needed.
  • The role requires working in shift, that may start at 5:30 am or end past midnight. Occasionally weekend work may be involved.
