Job description

SUMMARY:

Maintenance employees are expected to perform all preventative maintenance and maintenance-related functions associated with a boat building yard. This includes, but is not limited to repairing, maintaining, installing and fabricating various facility and production systems and equipment. Maintenance employees are expected to prepare, plan and implement preventative maintenance schedules for all production and yard equipment so as to keep equipment operating properly and continuously. They must have experience in mechanical, electrical, electronic, plumbing, hydraulics, HVAC, structural and other facilities and production related maintenance projects. They must be able to work independently from prints, manuals, sketches, etc. They must be capable of troubleshooting all types of facility and production system problems.

WORKING MATERIALS:

Must be able to work with all types of wiring, piping, air and fluid lines, machinery, machine tools, etc.

TOOLS AND EQUIPMENT:

Must be able to use test equipment, such as voltmeters, ammeters, power supplies, etc. Must be able to use hand and power tools and operate motor vehicles, forklifts and other lifting aids.

Each person must directly supply their own hand tools per the attached tool list and must have them available in the yard and in working order throughout their employment period.

SKILL LEVELS AND ADVANCEMENT:

Maintenance employees are categorized into three different skill levels beginning with level 1, with the highest level being 3. The advancement of an employee to a higher skill/wage level shall be made only when the Company has a continuing need for an employee to perform work at that level and when the employee convincingly meets the next levelโ€™s criteria. An employeeโ€™s immediate supervisor may recommend that they be advanced. This nomination will be reviewed by at least the Director of Facilities for approval with input from other Managers.

Employees should expect that based on the ability of the person involved, they may move up a level or stay at the current level for longer periods than others working around them. In extremely rare cases, some may remain at their current skill level indefinitely. Although this would not be the Companyโ€™s goal, and likely not the goal of most employees, management does recognize that certain individuals are either unable or unwilling to learn the skills required to attain a higher level. Some employees may learn and adapt more quickly than others.

EDUCATION;

High school or technical school where print reading, basic measurement skills and tool use has been learned

Maintenance โ€“ Skill Level 1

Employees in this level are expected to demonstrate through a positive attitude towards their job and the company, they are anxious to learn the trade and contribute positively to the companyโ€™s goals. They are expected to begin to formally educate themselves technically.

DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:

  1. Develop proficiency in reading blueprints
  2. Perform basic layout work
  3. Fabricate and weld metal products as are necessary to meet the needs of the situation
  4. Assist other maintenance personnel as needs dictate
  5. Observe and comply will all safety policies, specifically lock out/tag out and safe electric work
  6. Replace or repair tools, equipment and parts using hand tools, power tools, lifting aids, etc.
  7. Operate forklift and other powered equipment
  8. Work with outside contractors on projects as necessary
  9. Maintain air compressor system by eliminating and repairing all leaks and cleaning intake filters
  10. Perform routine maintenance on building and fixtures throughout the yard when specified
  11. Work irregular or unusual hours in emergency situations

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS/REQUIREMENTS:

  1. Read and write in English
  2. Use decimal or fractional tape measure
  3. Physical strength to perform work standing, bending, squatting, kneeling and climbing
  4. Work with hands and arms overhead for extended periods
  5. Possess willingness and ability to learn new jobs and take instructions
  6. Be flexible and willing to work various shift schedules as required

Maintenance โ€“ Skill Level 2

For employees to advance to this level, they are expected to demonstrate that they are anxious to progress in the trade, have started to broaden their skills and have gained more experience. At this level, the quality, appearance, accuracy and quantity of their work will become key elements.

DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:

  1. Perform all skill level 1 duties and responsibilities
  2. Perform advanced layout work
  3. Maintain and repair various facility and production systems and equipment
  4. Develop and implement written preventative maintenance programs
  5. Work from drawings, maintenance manuals, codes, sketches and specifications
  6. Install, adjust, level and align various facility and production systems and equipment
  7. Install electrical control and timing devices, lighting systems, etc.
  8. Make emergency repairs when necessary to offset excessive downtime and production
  9. Perform assigned start-up and shut-down functions in the plant and facilities as necessary
  10. Perform security checks, boiler checks, etc. during non-working periods
  11. Safely handle and transport materials, parts, supplies, etc. throughout the yard
  12. Identify operating irregularities and machine malfunctions and notify supervision
  13. Work from general assignment and complete tasks with little or no direction from others
  14. Utilize typical house building skills to build or renovate office structures
  15. Maintain and ensure required quality by regular self inspection and asking for critique from more experienced co-workers and supervisors
  16. Produce work that is accurate, of the required quality with the proper appearance and within a reasonable and acceptable time period

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS/REQUIREMENTS:

1. All skill level 1 qualifications and requirements

2. Possess a background consistent with requirements for skill level 2

Maintenance โ€“ Skill Level 3

For employees to advance to this level, they are expected to have demonstrated that they consistently produce high quality work in a given time frame and that they can work independently with little or no supervision. They are further expected to have demonstrated that they belong on top of their field and have a thorough working knowledge of how other trades interface with their department in order to efficiently meet our production and quality goals.

DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:

  1. Perform all skill level 1 and 2 duties and responsibilities
  2. Perform extensive layout work
  3. Demonstrate consistency and proficiency in all trade related knowledge and experience
  4. Possess ability and willingness to successfully train at least one level 1 and/or level 2 employee and may from time to time be required to direct at least two other employees while still accomplishing own work on schedule

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS/REQUIREMENTS:

  1. All skill level 1 and 2 qualifications and requirements
