Join our dynamic Bitumen Production or Utilities & Upgrading (U2) Process Engineering teams and immerse yourself in the world of chemical engineering! This is a unique opportunity for a passionate chemical engineering student to gain hands-on experience in optimizing production processes, enhancing efficiency, and contributing to sustainable practices. In this role, you'll engage in short-range planning initiatives focused on immediate operational improvements, while also contributing to our mid to long-range strategic projects aimed at innovation and growth. You'll work alongside seasoned professionals, tackling real-world challenges and developing solutions that drive our operations forward.   • Job location: Fort McMurray, AB - Horizon Mine Operations
  • Shift schedule: 4 days on, 3 days off, working 10 hours per shift
  • Term lengths: 8 or 12 months
  • Term starts: January, May or September 2027

Key Accountabilities:

  • Assist the Bitumen Production or U2 Process Engineering teams in activities relating to operations, maintenance, and engineering design
  • Learn and understand the process, plant operations, and equipment
  • Gather field measurements & data to assist engineers
  • Review assets and data to see where we can improve and optimize the processย 
  • Participate in developing and executing improvements in the field and lab (may include pilot development and execution)
  • Collaborate with Project and Operations teams to resolve engineering issues and ensure alignment with operational requirements

What You Bring to The Role:

  • Currently enrolled in bachelor's degree program in Chemical engineering (preferred) or Mechanical (acceptable)
  • Motivated and positive attitude
  • Experience with Microsoft Office (Excel, Word, and PowerPoint)
  • Possess a valid Class 5 Alberta driver's license or equivalent out of province license with a reasonably clean driver abstract
  • A pre-employment drug screening test must be successfully completed
