About The Role CITY OF KINGMAN LEGAL ASSISTANT CITY ATTORNEY'S OFFICE WORK SCHEDULE: MONDAY THROUGH THURSDAY 7:00 AM - 6:00 PM Learn more about our Benefits & Wellness Incentives APPLICATION MUST BE SUBMITTED BY 06/14/2026 BY 5:00PM The City of Kingman is seeking a Legal Assistant to perform complex, technical administrative work in support of municipal legal proceedings. Operating under the general supervision of the Administrative Supervisor and City Attorney, this independent role requires a sharp individual who can manage diverse clerical duties within tight court and operational time constraints. You will be responsible for filing and reporting case details, maintaining strictly confidential records, and serving as a key point of contact for the public, municipal departments, and law enforcement agencies.

About you You possess a strong foundation in specialized legal procedures, principles, terminology, and documentation. You are highly organized, accurate, and thorough, with a proven ability to exercise a high degree of independence in managing administrative details. An excellent communicator, you are comfortable handling considerable public contact and navigating interactions across various agencies with professionalism.

You thrive in a role where your work is guided by established policies but relies on your sound judgment and self-direction to ensure seamless legal operations. What You'll Need To Be Successful In This Role DESIRED MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS Education and experience: Completion of a two-year college degree in business education or a related field; Associate Degree in paralegal or legal assistant desired. Two to five (2-5) years of experience in legal secretarial work in a public jurisdiction.

Specialized course work in legal terminology, procedures and practices and/or experience in general office practices such as typing, word processing, electronic spreadsheets and databases, filing, accounting and bookkeeping. Any combination of experience and training which demonstrates the knowledge and experience to perform the work. SPECIAL REQUIREMENTS Valid Arizona Driver's License or ability to obtain one within six months of hire.

What You'll Do For The City Of Kingman Case Management & Trial Preparation (35%): Serves as an independent Legal Assistant providing comprehensive case management and trial support to attorneys and prosecutors. This includes evaluating case files to research missing information, updating databases, and preparing activity and status reports. Tracks the daily court docket to organize files and request supplemental records for pretrial conferences, trials, and sentencings.

Compiles discovery and disclosure materials, builds witness and exhibit lists, coordinates witness notifications, and organizes complex digital and physical filing systems to ensure absolute trial readiness.Document Preparation & Legal Research (20%): Drafts, proofreads, and processes complex legal and technical documents-including memoranda, indictments, subpoenas, and correspondence-in strict accordance with City and court procedures. Conducts legal research utilizing law library resources and online databases to locate relevant legal authorities, case laws, and criminal history records. Exercises independent judgment to verify the accuracy of charges, offenses, and data entry before finalizing court filings and distributing copies to appropriate parties

Scheduling, Communication & Agency Coordination (35%): Acts as a central liaison for the City Attorney's Office, maintaining master calendars for attorney appointments, meetings, court appearances, and filing deadlines. Coordinates and confirms interviews, depositions, and court settings with opposing counsel, officers, victims, and victim advocates. Routinely communicates and collaborates with the Kingman Municipal Court, the Police Department, and other municipal agencies to maximize operational efficiency, route information, and provide critical case updates.

Office Operations, Customer Service & Professionalism (10%): Manages daily administrative workflows, including screening telephone calls and office visitors, responding to inquiries within the scope of authority, and processing incoming mail. Participates actively on assigned City teams and committees to meet shared organizational goals. Consistently models professional conduct with coworkers and the public, maintains regular attendance to ensure continuity of operations, and strictly adheres to all City safety guidelines, policies, and procedures.
