Position Title: Legal Billing Clerk
This role is essential for ensuring the accuracy and efficiency of billing processes within a legal environment. The Legal Billing Clerk will prepare, review, and send client invoices while collaborating closely with attorneys and staff to maintain accurate records. This position offers a unique opportunity to thrive in a mid-sized law firm that values work-life balance and fosters a diverse and team-oriented culture. The individual will manage high-volume data entry tasks, making attention to detail a critical skill. Candidates who are self-starters and possess strong organizational abilities will find this role particularly rewarding.
Salary Range: $60,000 - $80,000 / Year DOE
Legal Billing Clerk Responsibilities:
  • Prepare, review, and send client invoices following firm and client billing guidelines
  • Work with attorneys, paralegals, and staff to ensure accurate time entry and billing codes
  • Review and edit prebills, make corrections, and finalize invoices
  • Track billing schedules and ensure invoices are submitted on time
  • Process billing adjustments, write-offs, transfers, and split billing as needed
  • Research, document, and resolve billing issues or client questions
  • Maintain organized billing records and documentation
  • Support collections, accounts receivable, and cash flow management
  • Coordinate billing cycles and compile attorney/paralegal billable hours
  • Post daily operating and trust account receipts
  • Communicate with clients, attorneys, staff, and third-party billers regarding billing matters and pull backup support for client expenses when needed
  • Submit electronic invoices through e-billing platforms and manage billing changes
  • Ensure compliance with client billing guidelines, rates, and billing requirements
  • Track billing status and prepare reports or spreadsheets as needed
  • Process ACH payments and follow up on outstanding invoices

Legal Billing Clerk Requirements:
  • 1-2 years of legal billing experience is required
  • Experience with legal billing software, preferably Thomson Elite 3E, is required
  • Hands-on experience with e-billing, submissions, budgets, and billing appeals is required
  • High school diploma is required
  • Experience in the legal industry is required
  • Bachelor's or associate's degree is preferred
  • Familiarity with a document management system, such as iManage, is preferred
