SUPPORT TEACHER:

Title: Support Teacher Reports To: School Site Principal

Department: Educational Services Work Year: 189 Days per year

DESCRIPTION OF POSITION:

Under the supervision of the School Site Principal, maximize the impact of District instructional improvement directions on identified students through direct and active improvement with these processes. (e.g. instructional support, curriculum development and implementation, parent involvement and education.)


REPRESENTATIVE DUTIES:

  • Provide direct services to students whose achievement is low in identified areas. E1
  • Act as a resource to teachers by providing additional research-based strategies, interventions, diagnostic tools for use in the classroom with low-achieving students. E
  • Assist teachers in carrying out individual learning plans providing small group support. E
  • Develop, with staff, a system of program evaluation, accountability and communication. E
  • Assist with communication between the school and the home in areas such as conferencing, motivating the child, and homework. E
  • Other related duties as assigned


EDUCATION AND CREDENTIAL REQUIREMENTS:

  • Valid California Elementary or Multiple Subject Teaching Credential.
  • CLAD/BCLAD authorization (SB1969 and AB395 also qualify) or commitment to obtain.
  • AB466 training or commitment to obtain.
  • Experience in Title I or other project schools.
  • Experience in assessment and diagnosis of reading and math


KNOWLEDGE AND ABILITIES:

KNOWLEDGE OF:

  • Intervention programs for truants, drop-outs, and other at-risk students.
  • State and Federally funded education programs.


SKILLS:

  • Flexibility in working with a diverse student population and a variety of instructional personnel.
  • Strong organizational and communication skills.
  • Excellent group leadership and facilitation skills
  • Commitment to VCUSD goals and ideals.
