Job description

The Chewy Vet Care Learning and Development training organization is seeking an L&D Medical Manager with a with a strong background in learning and development, specifically in veterinary medicine, customer service and systems training. The ideal candidate will use their expertise in veterinary medicine and customer service to develop an exceptional training experience for new and existing Chewy Vet Care team members. This role will collaborate closely with internal L&D team members, medical and practice operations stakeholders to develop medical role-based training. This candidate will source, validate and translate necessary medical content into training materials used during onboarding, continued education and career advancement programs. In partnership with the Chewy Vet Care training delivery team, this candidate will help build a scalable and structured Chewy Vet Care medical training center of excellence program that will provide standardized medical training for newly onboarded team members and team members who want to advance in their career.

The successful candidate will be credentialed, certified or have a degree in veterinary medicine and have experience designing, developing, and delivering training. As training needs ebb and flow, you will work with multiple projects on any training or content related needs for the Chewy Vet Care business.

Responsibilities

  • Collaborates actively with appropriate medical and operations leaders (external and internal) to develop relevant content that is realistically administered and completed in clinics.

  • Serves as a medical content subject matter expert in partnership with Learning Architects and Instructional Designers by reviewing and contributing to the development of accurate and appropriate medical learning content for onboarding and continuous learning. Creates training where applicable.

  • Organizes and sequences training content with a blend of practical application and technical instruction.

  • Project manages medical training programs from intake to execution of the training program.

  • Partners with Learning Strategy and Analytics to define and measure success criteria to assess short and long term skill transfer and effectiveness of medical learning courses and programs.

  • Contributes to the development of systems and medical training for all roles that support Chewy Vet Care such as Doctor, Veterinary Technician, Veterinary Assistant, Client Concierge, Practice Manager and Veterinary Care Representatives.

  • Leverages adult learning principles in content development and training implementation to drive improved medical skills and knowledge coupled with the customer experience that team members and the business need to be  successful. 

  • Participates as needed during in clinic training, mentoring and content validation.

  • Conducts content maintenance on a regular cadence to ensure compliance and accuracy

  • Effectively manages projects and deadlines to achieve business results

Qualifications

  • An advanced degree or certification in Performance Technology, Instructional Design, Adult Learning, or Teaching plus 3-5 years of on-the-job application.

  • Proven experience with Instructional Design and performance consulting.

  • The ability to write application-level test questions, creating performance and knowledge measures through traditional testing mechanisms (multiple-choice questions, for example) as well as scenario-based testing scenarios for all international support needs.

  • Stand-up training experience and the ability to delivery stand-up instruction is a plus to deliver Train the Trainer sessions.

  • Experience coordinating and developing multiple projects at one time successfully even when those projects may fall outside of core responsibilities.

  • Demonstrated ability to communicate effectively with peers, driving diverse workgroups to collaborative solutions.

  • Experience with using Learning Management Systems a plus.

  • Proven Microsoft Office skills in Word, PowerPoint, and Excel necessary.

  • Apply strategic thinking to organizational and business perspectives to identify and focus on key drivers of organizational performance and results that are scalable

  • Strong organizational and project management

  • Proven top level Instructional Design Skills. This included the ability to think about how tactical projects support strategic plans and initiatives.

  • The ability to push adult learning theories into practical application. The ability to simply quote adult learning theory is only part of the equation. The application of those theories to solve difficult business problems is critical to the success of this role.

  • Strong Microsoft Office Skills mandatory including the ability to work in Word Templates.

  • Must be able to work well in a team and take on big challenges that may be ambiguous. How you accomplish your daily tasks is as important as the results you get in this highly collaborative environment.

The base salary range for this role is $86,500 - $138,500.00.
  • The specific salary offered to a candidate may be influenced by a variety of factors including but not limited to the candidate’s relevant experience, education, and work location. In addition, this position is eligible for 401k and a new hire and annual equity grant. C08+ positions may also be eligible for annual bonus.
