Senior Learning Management Systems Technology Specialist

Location: Adelphi, MD

The Senior Learning Management Systems (LMS) Technology Specialist supports and advances the D2L Brightspace platform and its integrated technologies to meet UMGC's instructional and operational needs. This role collaborates with academic, learning design, and technical partners to evaluate, implement, and optimize learning technologies. The Specialist leads LMS feature evaluation and configuration, contributes to the Continuous Delivery (CD) release cycle, and ensures solutions are aligned with user needs, institutional goals, and evolving best practices. The role requires strong technical acumen, thoughtful problem-solving, and a commitment to innovation in a fast-paced environment.

Duties and Responsibilities

  • Collaborate with academic, learning design, and technology teams to translate needs into technical requirements and ensure seamless integration of learning technologies.

  • Lead evaluation, configuration, and implementation recommendations for D2L Brightspace Continuous Delivery (CD) releases, assessing instructional and operational impacts.

  • Manage setup, evaluation, configuration, and troubleshooting of LTI tools, SSO integrations, and role-based access within LMS environments.

  • Conduct requirements gathering, user testing, and implementation of new learning technologies that support course and program outcomes.

  • Develop and maintain LMS documentation, training resources, and sandbox environments to support innovation and controlled testing.

  • Independently manage LMS initiatives and cross-functional projects with minimal oversight.

Education & Experience Requirements

Education:

  • Bachelor's degree in instructional/educational technology, information technology, computer science, or related field OR equivalent experience including industry certifications.

Experience:

  • 2+ years of D2L Brightspace experience in an administrator role.

  • 3-5+ years designing or configuring LMS environments, ideally in higher education.

  • Experience developing system requirements, integrations, reports, and testing plans.

  • Experience designing and delivering training and support materials.

  • Demonstrated ability to manage multiple projects and deadlines.

Preferred Experience Requirements

Education:

  • - Master's degree in a related field.

Experience:

  • - Experience implementing or operating LCMS platforms.

  • - Experience with Agile methodologies.

Certifications:

  • - Technical or LMS-related certifications

Hiring Range:

$95,000.00 - $105,000.00
