Job description


Horizon Farm Credit is seeking a full-time AI Intern for the summer of 2027 in either our Bel Air, MD, or Mechanicsburg, PA, branch location. To view locations, visit Locations | Horizon Farm Credit. May be flexible for alternative locations.
The selected candidate will participate in a paid 10-12-week internship. Summer Intern hours are typically Monday to Friday from 8:00 a.m. - 4:30 p.m. The internship program is scheduled to run from mid-May through early August 2026. Position Overview
As an AI Intern at Horizon Farm Credit, you will work alongside our Business Intelligence team to design, build, and deploy generative AI solutions that address real business challenges across the organization. This internship provides hands-on experience developing AI applications using on-premises computing infrastructure, open-weight large language models (LLMs), retrieval-augmented generation (RAG), and modern machine learning development practices.
The selected candidate will contribute to the development of a production-ready AI application from concept to implementation, including model evaluation, prompt engineering, data preparation, application development, testing, and deployment. This role offers a unique opportunity to gain practical experience with enterprise AI technologies while helping Horizon responsibly expand the use of artificial intelligence to improve employee productivity and business outcomes.
Areas of Responsibilities
  • Facilitating stakeholder meetings, workshops, and training sessions to define project objectives and uncover AI use cases.
  • Test new AI technologies and recommend practical applications for the firm.
  • Research, evaluate, and implement AI tools across the organization.
  • Collaborate with stakeholders to assess the feasibility of AI initiatives, guiding prioritization and alignment with strategic outcomes.
  • Turn business requirements into actionable technical specifications.
  • Share continuously expanding knowledge of the AI landscape.

Required Qualifications & Preferred Skills
  • Ambitious student currently pursuing a Bachelor's degree program in Computer Science, Information Systems, Software Engineering, Data Analytics, or related field.
  • Preferred expected graduation dates between May 2028 - December 2029.
  • Strong academic background and a GPA of 3.0 or above.
  • Experience with Coursework in Data Structures and Algorithms, Database, Programming, and User Experience.
  • Ability to work independently, learn new tasks, solve problems, and show strong self-motivation.
  • Excellent written and oral communication skills.
  • Ability to work independently with general supervision and proven self-starter.
