Title: Learning Commons Assistant

Job Summary

The Learning Commons Assistant provides assistance to students in the Learning Commons (LC), which includes library, testing, and tutoring services. We are currently seeking to fill four openings for this position. Two openings are for the daytime shift (8:00 AM-2:00 PM), and the other two are for the nighttime shift (2:00 PM-8:00 PM).

Job Duties

  • General 
    • Answer phones, transfers call as needed 
    • Respond to emails 
    • Assist with special events 
    • Assist with maintaining the facility 
    • Restock and inventory supplies 
    • Other duties as assigned 
  • Library 
    • Perform circulation tasks 
    • Shelve library materials 
    • Assist with shelf reading and inventory 
    • Help students locate library resources 
  • Testing 
    • Complete and maintain all required testing certifications 
    • Administer and proctor JSCC and eCampus testing 
    • Monitor cameras while students are testing 
    • Assist students with test scheduling/rescheduling 
    • Secure personal items in lockable storage containers and bags 
    • Enter testing data into student record 
    • Maintain a high level of confidentiality 
  • Tutoring 
    • Check students in for consultations 
    • Assist students with scheduling/rescheduling tutoring sessions 
  • Technology Support 
    • Troubleshoot basic technology issues (Microsoft 365, Slate, eLearn, etc.) 
    • Restock paper in copiers and printers 

Minimum Qualifications

Associates degree from an accredited institution or equivalent experience

Preferred Qualifications

Experience working in higher education
Prior learning commons/library experience
Prior testing administration experience

Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities

Excellent customer service skills
Working knowledge of Microsoft 365

Physical Demands / Working Conditions

  • Prolonged periods of sitting at a desk and working on a computer
  • Prolonged periods of standing at times
  • Prolonged screen time
  • Must be able to lift up to 25 pounds at times
  • Repetitive Movement

Pay Rate:  $14.50/hour (For up to a maximum of 29 hours per week.)
