Job Summary
The Assistant Director of Alternative & Online Learning is primarily responsible for maintaining a safe and orderly learning environment through proactive student management and the rigorous application of district conduct policies. This role oversees student management systems, monitors attendance trends, and utilizes performance data to implement targeted behavioral and instructional interventions. As a key communicator, the Assistant Director fosters strong partnerships by providing timely updates to staff, parents, and community constituents regarding student progress and school activities. Furthermore, the position leads building-level accountability and assessment efforts by organizing school testing, training staff on protocols, and disaggregating data to drive continuous improvement in student achievement.
Student Management
- Understand and follow district policies and best practices as they relate to student discipline and communication;
- Supervision of building and learning environments: halls, lunch room, etc.;
- Support the development, implementation, and evaluation of student management programs and systems;
- Address transportation issues when needed;
- Understand special education and individual education plans to help manage behaviors;
- Monitor student attendance for all students and work with staff and county to implement attendance plans for individual students;
- Facilitate the implementation of the code of student conduct in accordance with school and system policy to ensure a safe and orderly learning environment;
- Utilize student performance data and educator feedback to inform instructional practices and recommend targeted interventions;
- Ensure that student conduct conforms with the school's standards and school district policies;
- Interpret, evaluate, and analyze student assessment and program evaluation results for the purpose of improving instruction and student achievement in the District;
- Coordinate the implementation of effective and efficient assessment systems and data collection processes that provide a record of baseline measures and track longitudinal trends.
Accountability and Assessment
- Organize and coordinate school assessments;
- Train other staff on testing protocols;
- Assist in the disaggregation of the data to be used for future instruction;
- Act as a resource person to other administrative staff in the development and implementation of administrative practices, policies and procedures for the District.
Communications
- Communicate with constituents in a timely manner;
- Communicate with staff, students, parents and community partners about concerns, activities and progress of the school;
- Encourage parental involvement in students' education and ensure effective communication with students and parents;
- Communicate the latest developments in curriculum and innovative instructional programs to improve student achievement.
School Safety
- Collaborate with the administrative team to organize and evaluate drills and safety protocols;
- Ensure a safe learning environment with consistent monitoring of safety protocols;
- Promote a school environment that is safe and conducive to individualized instruction and student learning.
Staffing and Human Resources
- Support the coaching and/or supervision of staff;
- Collaborate with administrators to supervise and evaluate teaching staff and other building employees in accordance with the school district's evaluation plan, and make recommendations regarding goals, areas needing improvement and continued employment;
- Support the coaching and evaluation of licensed and non-licensed staff and provide assistance and resource services to the District-wide evaluation of staff;
- Offer one-on-one coaching sessions to teachers based on classroom observations and data analysis, fostering continuous improvement and innovation;
- Assist in the recruitment and selection of certified and classified personnel.
Instructional and Program Leadership
- Assist in the development and implementation of an effective staff development program;
- Assist with the development and implementation of the school improvement plan;
- Ensure the district's curriculum standards are delivered effectively;
- Lead through the presence in classroom, building, and school functions;
- Ensure that curriculum and instruction incorporates the experiences, culture, history and perspectives of people from various cultures and backgrounds;
- Foster collaboration among teachers, administrators, and other relevant parties to promote a cohesive educational experience for students;
- Support compliance with district policies, procedures, and legal requirements related to curriculum, instruction, and professional development;
- Work with administrators and teachers to develop and implement extended day and summer school programs;
- Administer school programs consistent with school district goals and objectives;
- Maintain a system for accurate and complete record-keeping and reporting for student activities, attendance and records as required by law;
- Support the selection and adoption of instructional materials, textbooks, and media and software materials for the District.
Other
- Continue to acquire professional knowledge and learn of current developments in the educational field by attending seminars, workshops or professional meetings, or by conducting research;
- Support District and School Operations;
- Support the development and management of state and federal grant proposals and budgets.
Qualifications
- Masters degree or higher in Educational Leadership
- Three years or more of educational administration experience preferred.
- Minnesota license for Administration (K-12 Principal and/or Special Ed Director) or eligibility for such licensure;
- Demonstrated excellence in administrative or supervisory experience;
- Knowledge of current teaching methods and educational pedagogy, as well as differentiating instruction based upon student learning styles.
- Knowledge of K-12 school curriculum and concepts in multiple areas, including regular and special education, as well as elementary, middle and high school levels.
- Knowledge of best practices in administration, program evaluation and staff supervision.
- Knowledge of data information systems, data analysis and the formulation of action plans.
- Demonstrated understanding, promotion and support of culturally responsive teaching and behavior management practices.
- Knowledge of current state and federal special education law and regulations.
- Strong interpersonal communication skills with students, parents, staff, and administration;
- Ability to work on multiple tasks and prioritize appropriately;
- Ability to exercise initiative and make independent decisions to reschedule work to meet deadlines or to effectively handle emergency work;
- Motor Vehicle operator's license or ability to provide own transportation.
Pay & Benefits
