Job description

Scope
The Electrical Project Engineer 1 will lead design efforts as a project manager or lead engineer for low to moderate complexity projects and collaborate with senior staff for the delivery of larger and high complexity projects. They will be responsible for working closely with a team of engineers and consultants to provide engineering solutions and advice to clients to ensure positive outcomes. Primary responsibilities will include engineering analysis, design and implementation oversight of electrical systems for buildings. This position will be expected to work within the project's monetary budget, train, mentor, and collaborate with cross-functional teams to meet project goals and client expectations.
Principal Responsibilities
• Lead design efforts for the analysis of electrical systems, utilizing engineering software and tools to create detailed designs, specifications, and calculations according to code requirements and IMEG standards
• Interact with clients to understand their needs, gather project requirements, and communicate technical information effectively; Build and maintain client relationships through professional communication
• Work as part of a project team to support the execution of consulting projects; Lead efforts in project planning, budgeting, and scheduling tasks to meet project deadlines and objectives
• Document design decisions and instructions from clients while monitoring project design progress as related to percent complete and fee expended
• Analyze engineering problems and propose innovative solutions; Collaborate with senior engineers and consultants to develop practical and efficient solutions
• Provide in-process design reviews of electrical system design, calculations, and specifications. Implement IMEG quality control processes to ensure that engineering designs and solutions meet IMEG quality standards, industry standards and client requirements
• Stay up to date with industry trends, emerging technologies, and best practices in electrical engineering. Contribute to research, development, and innovation efforts within IMEG
• Prioritize safety in all aspects of engineering work. Identify and mitigate potential safety risks associated with electrical systems
• Collaborate with multidisciplinary teams, including other engineers, architects, and project managers, to deliver integrated solutions that meet project goals
• Identify potential project problems and seek advice from the Project Manager
• Oversee projects through bidding and construction administration phase
Required Skills/Abilities
• Proficiency in design techniques, tools, and concepts involved in the production of technical plans and specifications
• Strong technical and analytical skills including knowledge of principles relating to circuit theory, electromagnetism, power systems, and electronics as they relate to electrical systems design for buildings
• Proficient with industry standard engineering software and tools including lighting photometric calculation software such as AGI, Elum Tools, Visual Lighting, or other; power system analysis and design software such as SKM/PTW, Easy Power, or other; and energy compliance software such as ComCheck. Proficient with Adobe or Bluebeam Revu
• Knowledge of Illumination Engineering Society (IES) Standards
• Proficient with the use of reference material resources such as NFPA Link, TechStreet, MadCAD, and Facility Guideline Institution (FGI)
• Knowledge of Master Specification editing and software such as eSPECS, BIM software, and CTC Revit Add In Tools; Proficiency of Smart Engineering Design Assist (SET) Tools within Revit for electrical calculations, coordination, properties, etc.
• Ability to train and mentor less experienced staff
• Excellent communication and interpersonal skills; Ability to clearly communicate in both oral and written communication to individuals or groups
• Ability to work collaboratively in a team environment
• Attention to detail and problem-solving skills
• Proficient with MS Office Suite including but not limited to Word, Excel, and Outlook
• Ability to travel up to 10% with occasional overnight stays
Education and Experience
• Bachelor of Science (BS) Degree in Electrical Engineering, or equivalent required
• Professional Engineer (PE) License required
• 2 years of experience minimum required, 4 preferred, in the building design consulting industry
