Job description

Major Food Group is hiring a Lead Bartender to join our team at THE GRILL!


THE GRILL is a historically based American chophouse set in midcentury New York. It takes great inspiration from history; both the time the Seagram Building was built and the restaurants that existed at that time. It is the precursor to the NY Steakhouse, when things were still intricate and elegant. It celebrates all the animals of the land and some of our favorites from the sea. There is extensive table side preparation and service. There is also extensive use of THE GRILL. It is the name of the restaurant, the style of restaurant, and the piece of equipment we use in the kitchen for many of our signature preparations.

The Lead Bartender would oversee all aspects of the bar and spirits programs at The Grill and Event venues in conjunction with Regional Beverage Manager.


RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Provide high quality service to all guests
  • Adhere to all local and national liquor laws
  • Mix and serve drinks following set standard recipes
  • Greet guests in a timely manner and take orders
  • Process cash and credit card transactions following appropriate procedures
  • Maintain a safe and clean environment for guests and team
  • Carry out all tasks with attention to detail, cleanliness, and safety
  • Monthly liquor inventory
  • Inventory variance analysis
  • Order all liquor product
  • Order bar sundries – ice, garnishes, bar mixers
  • Inventory efficiency – ensure all product has application and purpose
  • Invoice processing
  • Receive and stock liquor product
  • Liquor room - cleanliness and organization
  • Cost analysis and pricing recommendations
  • Party Package Beverage/Cocktail menus – ensure accuracy and profitability – submit changes to Beverage Manager
  • Source and all necessary barware to be ordered by the GM
  • Glassware inventory
  • Whiskey cart – cleanliness, organization, assist with product selection
  • Alert management to necessary Micros work
  • DOH bar compliance
  • Bartender training and development
  • Staff Education – monthly liquor tastings
  • Maintaining the cleanliness
  • Ensuring that the bars are organized
  • Head bartender sends weekly event schedule and details (event information, tasting schedule, BEOs, tech sheets, SOPS)
  • Head Bartender coordinates with Events Team regarding tastings, bespoke cocktail request, spirit package/upgrades & bar-focused special requests

REQUIREMENTS:

  • At least 3 years of experience in high end and high volume restaurants.
  • Leadership experience in a high-volume restaurant or similar environment
  • strong command over serving, bartending, and hosting duties.
  • Excellent communication, organizational, and interpersonal skills.
  • Ability to lead a team.
  • Passionate about bar service.
  • Capable of multi-tasking and supporting the team during service.
  • Ability to lift up to 50 lbs and stand for long periods of time.
