Barback Position Overview

The Bar Back plays a vital supporting role in the success of Alessandro's bar program. Working closely with our bartenders, the Bar Back ensures seamless service by maintaining a clean, organized, and fully stocked bar environment. This position is ideal for individuals eager to learn the craft of bartending in an upscale, fast-paced setting.

Key Responsibilities:

Bar Preparation & Stocking

  • Cut, prep, and replenish fresh fruit garnishes including citrus wheels, wedges, and specialty cuts as directed by the bartending team
  • Retrieve and restock ice from the ice machine, ensuring ice bins are filled and maintained at proper levels throughout service
  • Restock liquor, beer, wine, mixers, and other bar supplies before and during service to prevent shortages
  • Prepare glassware by polishing and staging appropriate glasses for service
  • Assist with setting up the bar before opening, including mise en place for garnishes and bar tools

Bar Cleanliness & Organization

  • Wipe down the bar surface, speed rail, and back bar regularly throughout service to maintain a clean and professional appearance
  • Clear plates, glassware, and debris promptly from the bar top to ensure a clean and welcoming guest experience
  • Remove and transport bus tubs to the dish pit in a timely and safe manner
  • Wash and sanitize bar tools, shakers, strainers, and other equipment as needed
  • Empty trash receptacles and replace liners as required throughout the shift
  • Sweep and mop behind the bar at the close of each shift
  • Maintain an organized and clutter-free well and back bar area

Guest & Team Support

  • Assist bartenders with drink production during high-volume periods by retrieving items and delivering drinks to waiting guests as directed
  • Communicate proactively with bartenders regarding low stock, equipment issues, or guest needs
  • Deliver beverages to bar-seated guests when bartenders are occupied
  • Assist servers and floor staff by running bar drinks to tables when needed
  • Respond promptly to requests from the bartending team to ensure smooth, uninterrupted service

End-of-Shift Duties

  • Break down and clean the bar at the end of service, including draining and sanitizing ice bins
  • Properly store and cover all garnishes and perishable items
  • Complete any side work as assigned by the Bar Manager or Lead Bartender
  • Assist with taking and recording inventory counts as directed
Qualifications
  • Prior experience in a restaurant, bar, or hospitality setting preferred but not required
  • Must be at least 18 years of age
  • Ability to lift and carry up to 50 lbs and stand for extended periods
  • Strong work ethic with a team-first attitude
  • Ability to work efficiently in a fast-paced, high-volume environment
  • Reliable, punctual, and professional in appearance and conduct
  • RAMP certification or willingness to obtain upon hire
Work Environment
