Industry UsagePrimary legal service providerSupport role within legal teams

Law firms are legal organizations where licensed attorneys provide legal services and representation. Paralegals assist lawyers by preparing documents and conducting research but are not licensed to practice law. While both work within the legal industry, law firms employ licensed attorneys, whereas paralegals support legal teams without practicing law independently.

What kind of work do law firms do?

Law firms provide legal services such as advising clients, drafting legal documents, representing clients in court, and handling negotiations. They employ lawyers, paralegals, and support staff to handle various areas like corporate, criminal, family, or civil law, often requiring strong research and communication skills.

What is a law firm?

A law firm is a business entity formed by one or more lawyers to practice law together. Law firms offer legal services to individuals, businesses, and organizations, providing advice, representation, and assistance in various legal matters such as contracts, litigation, and regulatory issues. The size and focus of law firms can vary widely, ranging from small boutique practices to large international firms with hundreds of attorneys. Law firms may specialize in specific areas of law, such as corporate, family, criminal, or intellectual property law. Hiring a law firm allows clients to access legal expertise and resources to resolve their legal issues effectively.

What are some common challenges faced when starting a career at a law firm, and how can new hires overcome them?

New hires at law firms often face challenges such as adapting to a fast-paced environment, managing multiple deadlines, and learning to use firm-specific legal research tools. Balancing billable hour requirements with professional development can also be demanding. To overcome these challenges, it's helpful to seek mentorship from senior associates, proactively communicate with team members, and utilize any training resources provided by the firm. Building strong organizational skills and staying open to feedback will also support your success as you grow within the firm.

Can I work at a law firm without being a lawyer?

Yes, law firms employ a variety of non-lawyer staff such as paralegals, legal assistants, administrative personnel, and clerks. These roles support legal services but do not require a law degree or license to practice law.

What are all the positions in a law firm?

Law firms typically have a range of positions including partners, associates, paralegals, legal assistants, clerks, and administrative staff. Senior attorneys and partners usually oversee firm operations, while junior lawyers and support staff handle casework and client interactions. Some firms also employ specialized roles such as legal secretaries, marketing professionals, and IT support staff.

What Are Different Types of Jobs in a Law Firm?

Your job opportunities at a law firm include lawyer or attorney, legal assistant or paralegal, law clerk, and legal secretary. A firm may also have employees who perform administrative and support duties, such as a bookkeeper or legal writer. The job responsibilities of lawyer involve working on cases and appearing in court, while paralegals and assistants support their efforts with research and managing records. As a paralegal or legal secretary, you may also work with clients by collecting information, making sure they understand the cases, and providing the required documents and information.

Job description

Change Lives. Build Relationships. Earn Big.

At Solano Law Firm, we're not just helping clients file paperworkโ€”we're helping families create a better future.

As a Consultation Specialist, you'll be one of the most important people in a client's journey. You'll meet with prospective clients, learn their stories, help them understand their options, and guide them toward taking the next step in their immigration case.

This role is perfect for someone who loves connecting with people, thrives in a fast-paced environment, and enjoys the challenge of turning conversations into meaningful outcomes. Every day is different, every client has a unique story, and every successful consultation has the potential to change a family's future.

Bilingual Requirement: Fluency in both English and Spanish is required. The majority of clients are Spanish-speaking immigrants and their families. Consultation Specialists must be able to confidently conduct consultations, build relationships, explain processes, answer questions, and communicate professionally in both English and Spanish without the assistance of a translator.

If you're not fully fluent in both languages, this position will not be the right fit.

What You'll Do

  • Conduct immigration consultations with prospective clients
  • Build trust and rapport with individuals and families seeking legal help
  • Ask thoughtful questions to uncover needs and identify opportunities for legal review
  • Educate clients on the firm's process and potential pathways under attorney supervision
  • Handle questions and objections with confidence and professionalism
  • Follow up with prospective clients and guide them through the decision-making process
  • Deliver a high-touch, white-glove client experience from start to finish
  • Partner closely with attorneys and legal staff to ensure clients receive the support they need

What Makes Someone Successful Here?

This isย notย a call center role.

Our best Consultation Specialists combine:

  • Empathy with confidence
  • Structure with warmth
  • Sales ability with integrity
  • Curiosity with strong listening skills
  • The ability to connect with people from diverse backgrounds and cultures
  • A genuine desire to help families navigate important life decisions

Important Note: You will not provide legal advice or represent yourself as an attorney. Your role is to gather information, educate clients about the firm's process, identify opportunities for attorney review, and help qualified prospects move forward with representation.

Schedule & Work Expectations

  • Full-time, in-office position in Birmingham, Alabama
  • Mondayโ€“Friday | 9:00 AMโ€“6:00 PM Eastern Time

Although based in Birmingham, Solano Law Firm operates company-wide on Eastern Time, and all team members follow the same schedule.

This is a highly community-focused position. Clients frequently visit the office in person, and you'll become a familiar face within Birmingham's immigrant community.

Remote and hybrid work are not available for this role.

Compensation

  • Base Salary: $45,000โ€“$50,000
  • Performance-Based Bonus Structure tied to revenue collected and client deposits
  • On-Target Earnings (OTE): $70,000โ€“$100,000+ annually
  • Top performers regularly earn over $90,000 per year.

Why Solano Law Firm?

At Solano Law Firm, you'll join a mission-driven team that genuinely cares about helping immigrant families build a better future. You'll have the opportunity to make a meaningful impact, develop valuable sales and client-relations skills, and grow your career while being rewarded for your performance.

You'll work directly with individuals and families who are looking for guidance, hope, and a path forwardโ€”and you'll play a critical role in helping them take that next step.

If you're motivated, people-focused, bilingual in English and Spanish, and excited by the opportunity to change lives while building a successful career, we'd love to meet you.

Compensation:
