What is land acquisition development?

Land acquisition development is the process by which individuals or organizations identify, evaluate, and purchase land for future development projects such as residential, commercial, or industrial use. This role involves researching zoning laws, negotiating with landowners, and securing permits to ensure the land can be developed according to project requirements. Professionals in land acquisition development work closely with legal, financial, and construction teams to facilitate the transformation of raw land into usable property. Their work is crucial in urban planning, housing expansion, and infrastructure growth.

What are the key skills and qualifications needed to thrive as a land acquisition development professional?

To thrive in Land Acquisition Development, you need a strong understanding of real estate markets, zoning laws, negotiation strategies, and typically a degree in business, real estate, or urban planning. · Conduct property ownership research, title review, and due diligence to support project development.

· Draft, negotiate, and execute option agreements, leases, easements, amendments, and other real estate agreements related to renewable energy development.

· Coordinate with internal development, legal, engineering, and project management teams throughout the acquisition process.

· Manage multiple projects simultaneously while maintaining accurate records, timelines, and reporting.

· Travel throughout the Midwest to meet with landowners, attend community meetings, and conduct site visits as needed.

· Monitor project milestones and proactively resolve land-related issues that could impact project schedules.

· Maintain a thorough understanding of local market conditions, permitting requirements, and renewable energy industry trends.

QUALIFICATIONS

· Minimum 5 years of experience in land acquisition for renewable energy projects, with a demonstrated history of successfully securing land rights.

· Experience supporting solar and/or battery energy storage (BESS) development projects.

· Strong knowledge of land acquisition processes, title research, easements, leases, and real estate transactions.

· Proven ability to build trust and maintain positive relationships with landowners and community stakeholders.

· Experience drafting, reviewing, and negotiating renewable energy land agreements.

· Strong organizational skills with the ability to manage multiple active projects and deadlines.

· Excellent verbal, written, and interpersonal communication skills.

· Proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite, including Excel, Word, Outlook, and PowerPoint.

· Ability to work independently with minimal supervision while collaborating effectively across cross-functional teams.

· Willingness to travel throughout the Midwest as project needs require.

PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS

· Experience with utility-scale renewable energy development.
