Job description

Overview

We are seeking an experienced Clinical Laboratory Supervisor to oversee the daily operations of our laboratory department. This leadership role is responsible for supervising laboratory personnel, ensuring high-quality diagnostic testing, maintaining regulatory compliance, and driving operational excellence.

The ideal candidate is an experienced Medical Laboratory Scientist (MLS/MT) or Clinical Laboratory Scientist (CLS) with strong leadership skills and a passion for delivering exceptional patient care.

Key Responsibilities
  • Supervise the daily operations of the clinical laboratory to ensure accurate, timely, and high-quality testing.
  • Lead, coach, and develop laboratory staff while promoting a positive and collaborative work environment.
  • Schedule, assign, and monitor staff to maximize productivity and ensure appropriate coverage.
  • Ensure all laboratory testing and procedures are performed according to established protocols, quality standards, and regulatory requirements.
  • Monitor employee attendance, timekeeping, and overall performance.
  • Maintain compliance with CLIA, CAP, Joint Commission, OSHA, and other applicable regulatory standards.
  • Prepare and review operational reports, workload statistics, quality metrics, staffing analyses, and performance improvement initiatives.
  • Assist with annual operating budgets, expense management, and capital equipment planning.
  • Collaborate with laboratory leadership on strategic planning, process improvements, and departmental initiatives.
  • Build strong relationships with physicians, hospital departments, outreach clients, and other healthcare professionals.
  • Promote continuous quality improvement, patient safety, and operational efficiency.
  • Ensure compliance with hospital policies, infection prevention practices, and workplace safety standards.
  • Stay current on laboratory best practices through continuing education and professional development.
QualificationsRequired
  • Bachelor's degree in Clinical Laboratory Science, Medical Laboratory Science, Biological Science, or a related field.
  • Current certification through one of the following:
    • ASCP (preferred)
    • AMT
    • AAB
  • Minimum 5 years of experience in a clinical laboratory setting.
  • Strong knowledge of laboratory operations, quality systems, and regulatory compliance.
  • Excellent leadership, communication, and organizational skills.
Preferred
  • Previous supervisory or laboratory leadership experience.
  • Experience leading high-volume hospital laboratory operations.
  • Budgeting and operational planning experience.
Pathology Candidates

Candidates supporting pathology operations may also qualify with:

  • Bachelor's degree in Cytology or Histotechnology, and
