What Does a Labor Relations Manager Do?
Labor relations managers negotiate contracts and agreements between labor organizations or individual employees and their organization. As a labor relations manager, your primary duties involve researching industry data, handling all aspects of negotiations, and resolving labor disputes. Most labor relations managers work in the human resources department of a company. The career requires knowledge of labor laws, union practices, and bargaining procedures, as well as wage information for your industry. Additional qualifications include at least a bachelor’s degree in a relevant field, such as business administration or human resources, prior management experience, and strong negotiation skills.

Job description
You will identify and drive operating efficiencies through contractual agreements, provide labor relations support to employees and leaders across the organization, and enable a positive workplace culture and environment by:
- Equitable administration of the collective agreement including grievance administration, interpretation and overall compliance
- Facilitating effective management/union relations
- Administration of attendance program
- Administration and discipline assessment
- Run attendance reports and gather information to compile into presentations with trend analysis
- EEOC and other workplace investigations
- Coaching, guiding and providing direction to operating management on assigned shift
- Implementation of lean manufacturing activities
Key experiences and know-how
The following prior experiences will be required for someone to be successful in this role:
- Interpretation and application of contracts and agreements
- Management of compliance and investigatory processes within a union environment
- Facilitation or participation in difficult interactions or situations, focusing on conflict resolution
- Analyzing data and using data to make decisions

Basic Qualifications:
- Bachelor's degree
- Minimum of 2 years of experience in Human Resources with an emphasis in labor relations in a manufacturing setting
- Willingness and ability to work onsite rotating shifts including nights, weekends and occasional holidays
- Proficient with Microsoft Suite
Preferred Qualifications:
- Bachelor's degree in Human Resources or Industrial Relations or related field
- Knowledge of Human Resources Information System and reporting tools
- Experience working in a lean manufacturing environment
