Located out of our Crown Point, IN facility, the Apprentice Plumber will assist in installing and maintaining commercial and residential plumbing on boilers, water lines, sanitary and grease lines, and building storm systems. The Apprentice Plumber will work both individually and in teams in a learning environment. Job duties include: Piping and re-piping of domestic hot and cold water, inspecting and repairing gas lines, provide plumbing service work, and perform regularly scheduled maintenance.
Job Duties and Responsibilities:
  • Assists in Installing and maintaining commercial plumbing systems.
  • Performs routine maintenance/repairs on boilers, water lines, sanitary and grease lines, and building storm systems.
  • Inspects and tests systems to determine condition and needed repairs.
  • Addresses customer concerns with their current plumbing systems.
  • Complies with all applicable standards, policies, and procedures, including safety procedures and the maintenance of a clean work area.
  • Record and report all faults, deficiencies, and other unusual occurrences, as well as the time and materials expended on work orders.
  • Tests systems for leaks.
  • Recommend, develop, or perform preventative or general maintenance procedures, such as cleaning, power-washing, or vacuuming equipment, lubricating parts, or replacement of parts.
  • Assists with other work in coordination with repair and maintenance teams.
  • Participates in monthly safety program duties and training.
  • Works alongside Journeyperson Plumbers to promote a learning environment. At times, the Apprentice may work individually.

Required Education/Experience:
  • High School Diploma or equivalent and enrollment in an apprenticeship program.

Competencies:
  • Knowledge of plumbing repairs, maintenance, and installation techniques, and local plumbing codes and standards.
  • Effective communication with internal team and customers.
  • Ability to follow written and verbal instructions.
  • Diagnose and resolve problems, follow written and verbal instructions, read written reference materials, and perform math.
  • Ability to use hand and power tools.
  • Must have a valid driver's license
  • Must be willing to undergo a background check and motor vehicle report.
  • Drug Testing may be required.

Physical Demands:
Must be physically able to operate a variety of machinery and equipment including electronic and diagnostic tools, recovery equipment, and various other plumbing equipment. Must be able to use body members to work, move or carry objects or materials. This position requires: stooping, kneeling, crouching, climbing, crawling, reaching, standing, walking, pushing, pulling, lifting, grasping, feeling, seeing, talking, hearing, and repetitive motions. Must be able to exert up to 50 pounds of force occasionally, and/or up to 20 pounds of force frequently. Physical demand requirements are at levels of those of medium work.
Work Environment:
This job operates both in teams and alone in all environments, which includes extreme cold or heat depending on the time of year. Vehicles are used as a base of operations.
