- 7A.M. The City of Durham's Department of Water Management (DWM) provides critical water and sewer services to the 309,000 plus residents of Durham. We lead long-term water and wastewater planning and infrastructure development, regularly treat and test systems for environmental compliance, and engage the public in water conservation to ensure all our customers have clean, safe water every time they turn on the tap. (Water Plant Operator (PO2) at our Brown Water Treatment Plant located at 1615 Infinity Rd, Durham, NC 27712. This position is responsible for monitoring plant operations by physical observation of plant processes; sampling units to ensure proper operation; maintaining accurate records; cleaning and calibrating process meters; monitoring chemical feeds and making process adjustments as needed. Checks equipment and adjust as necessary.

Duties/Responsibilities Assists with operating, adjusting, and maintaining equipment at the Brown Water Treatment Plant; monitors physical plant operations by observing plant processes; monitors chemical feeds; collects and analyzes lab samples under close supervision; and complies with work safety rules and procedures. Cleans and performs minor repairs on plant equipment; cleans assigned work areas; and receives and unloads chemicals. Maintains records, logs, databases, documentation and online systems; enters and updates data to document maintenance; reviews and proofs records to ensure accuracy and completeness.

Minimum Qualifications & Experience High School Diploma or Equivalent (GED, HiSET, TASC) Two years of water and/or wastewater treatment and/or operations experience based on assignment. North Carolina Grade C Surface Water Treatment Operator's License Must have a valid, unrestricted, North Carolina driver's license, or if a valid license from a State other than North Carolina, must be willing and able to obtain a valid, unrestricted NC driver's license within 60 days of hire Must have intermediate math & chemistry skills to accurately read meters & charts, maintain required records, & interpret readings to make necessary adjustments to treatment processes. This includes multiplication, addition, subtraction, & division of whole numbers, decimals, & fractions Additional Preferred Skills Knowledge of Microsoft Office.

Familiarity working with a water or wastewater plant/system via a SCADA interface
