Distance Learning Lab Facilitator

Position: Distance Learning Lab Facilitator
Work Schedule: 8 Hours Daily

Purpose of the Position

The Distance Learning Lab Facilitator supports student success, credit recovery, and on-time graduation at Ayden-Grifton High School. This position works directly with students assigned to the Distance Learning Lab who are completing coursework through an online credit recovery platform after previously failing one or more courses.

The facilitator plays a critical role in improving student achievement, increasing the school graduation rate, and supporting the school's mission of helping all students Charge Towards Excellence.


Essential Duties and Responsibilities

Student Supervision and Monitoring

  • Maintain active supervision of all students assigned to the Distance Learning Lab.
  • Remain visible and continuously circulate throughout the lab during instructional periods.
  • Avoid prolonged periods seated at the desk while students are working.
  • Monitor student screens, engagement, pacing, and academic progress.
  • Provide redirection, encouragement, and support to ensure students remain focused and productive.
  • Ensure students remain in assigned workspaces and follow school expectations.

Attendance and Daily Accountability

  • Take attendance within the first ten (10) minutes of each class period.
  • Maintain accurate attendance records.
  • Monitor attendance trends and identify concerns that may impact student success.
  • Communicate attendance, behavior, or engagement concerns to administration and school counselors in a timely manner.
  • Conduct regular progress checks with students during each class period.

Progress Monitoring and Documentation

  • Monitor student progress within the approved online credit recovery platform.
  • Maintain accurate and up-to-date documentation of:
    • Assigned courses
    • Percentage of course completion
    • Student pacing and progress
    • Course completion dates
    • Credits earned
  • Utilize school-approved tracking tools and reporting systems.
  • Provide progress reports and documentation to administration as requested.

Collaboration with School Counseling Staff

  • Meet regularly with school counselors regarding student progress and credit recovery needs.
  • Learn and follow established procedures for verifying course completion and awarding credit.
  • Communicate proactively regarding students who:
    • Are approaching course completion
    • Require additional support
    • Are not progressing at an acceptable pace
  • Ensure timely and accurate reporting of completed coursework and earned credits.

Lab Management and Student Access

  • Ensure only students officially assigned to the Distance Learning Lab are permitted in the lab during instructional periods.
  • Maintain a structured, organized, and academically focused learning environment.
  • Enforce school rules, expectations, and technology-use guidelines.

School Improvement and Student Success

  • Support Ayden-Grifton High School's efforts to improve student achievement and graduation outcomes through successful credit recovery.
  • Establish and maintain high expectations for student attendance, engagement, behavior, and academic performance.
  • Encourage students to make consistent and measurable progress toward earning course credit and graduating on time.

Additional Responsibilities

  • Participate in required professional development and training related to the credit recovery platform and student support systems.
  • Perform other duties as assigned by the Principal or designee.
