Modifications Lab (Mods Lab) Coordinator

Reports To: Principal and/or Assistant Principal
Employment Status: Full-Time 10 month and 8 hour per day

Position Summary

The Modifications Lab (Mods Lab) Coordinator is responsible for ensuring that students with Individualized Education Programs (IEPs), Section 504 Plans, and other approved accommodations receive the instructional supports and testing accommodations necessary for academic success. This position requires exceptional organizational skills, attention to detail, and a commitment to maintaining compliance with federal, state, and district Exceptional Children (EC) and Section 504 requirements.

The coordinator serves as a collaborative resource for teachers, counselors, administrators, EC staff, and families while fostering an organized, structured, and supportive learning environment that promotes student independence and achievement.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities

Student Accommodation Implementation

  • Implement accommodations and modifications outlined in students' IEPs and Section 504 Plans with fidelity.
  • Provide direct support to students during instructional periods and assessments.
  • Ensure accommodations are consistently implemented across all content areas.
  • Assist students in developing self-advocacy and organizational skills.
  • Maintain confidentiality regarding student records and services.

Compliance and Documentation

  • Maintain accurate documentation demonstrating implementation of accommodations.
  • Monitor compliance with EC and Section 504 procedures and timelines.
  • Assist administrators, EC teachers, and counselors with compliance documentation as requested.
  • Prepare records for audits, monitoring visits, and administrative reviews.
  • Communicate concerns regarding accommodation implementation promptly to administration and EC staff.

Organization and Coordination

  • Develop and maintain organized schedules for student services and testing accommodations.
  • Coordinate accommodation needs with classroom teachers, testing coordinators, counselors, and EC personnel.
  • Maintain an organized Mods Lab environment that promotes productivity and student success.
  • Manage instructional materials, assistive technology, and accommodation resources.

Student Supervision

  • Provide active supervision of students assigned to the Mods Lab.
  • Establish and maintain a structured, positive learning environment.
  • Reinforce school expectations for behavior, attendance, and academic engagement.
  • Monitor student progress and communicate concerns with appropriate staff.

Collaboration

  • Work collaboratively with:
    • EC Teachers
    • Section 504 Coordinator
    • School Counselors
    • Classroom Teachers
    • School Administrators
    • Parents/Guardians
  • Participate in meetings related to student supports and accommodations as requested.
  • Assist with problem-solving strategies to improve student outcomes.

Transportation Responsibilities

  • Obtain and maintain a valid North Carolina Commercial Driver's License (CDL) with appropriate endorsements as required by the district.
  • Successfully complete all district-required school bus driver training.
  • Drive a school bus or activity bus when assigned to support school transportation needs.
  • Maintain all required certifications and training related to transportation responsibilities.

Additional Responsibilities

  • Assist with state and local testing accommodations.
  • Support school initiatives designed to improve student achievement.
  • Perform other duties as assigned by the principal or designee.
