Job description

Overview:

Reporting to the Metals Innovation Engineering, this position is responsible for conducting for testing and lab-scale production of metal samples and prototypes relevant to the wire and cable industry. This work is conducted under the direction of metals engineers and standard guidelines and procedures.

Principal Duties & Responsibilities:

Maintain a safe laboratory environment by complying with safety rules and procedures

Prepare custom metal alloys, melt and cast, prepare samples, and test sample preparation

Perform physical, chemical, and electrical property testing on metallic rod/wire samples

Perform physical, chemical, and electrical property testing on cable samples

Perform metallographic analysis of metallic samples

Perform root cause analysis for metallic failure samples

Use analytical tools to identify metal composition and chemistry

Maintain records and issue reports on test results generated

Active participation in ITC Tech Service activities such as facility and equipment maintenance, housekeeping,safety audits, etc.

Occasional manual lifting up to 50 pounds

Able to lift and carry by hand various tools, materials, containers usually small to moderate in size

Occasional use of manual material handling equipment such as dollies, carts and pallet jacks to push, pull, and/or move heavy loads short distances

Knowledge/Skills/Abilities:

The ability to effectively communicate, both verbally and in writing

The ability to accurately scope out length and difficulty of tasks and projects; organize work into logicalprocess steps; use time effectively; and establish priorities

The ability to work as an individual or as a team

Demonstrates sound technical skills and attention to detail

The ability to cross-train in all laboratory equipment and procedures
