Job description

Lighthouse Lab Services is partnering with a respected healthcare organization to identify a Lead Medical Laboratory Scientist/Technician to support the Chemistry department at a hospital laboratory in Hillsboro, Ohio.

This position combines hands-on bench work with departmental leadership responsibilities, serving as a technical resource for the Chemistry team while helping oversee quality initiatives, training, proficiency testing, and instrument performance. This is an excellent opportunity for an experienced MLS or MLT looking to take the next step into a lead role while remaining actively involved in laboratory testing.

The Role You'll Play:
  • Perform routine chemistry testing while ensuring accurate and timely reporting of patient results.
  • Perform and document quality control, preventative maintenance, and calibration of laboratory instrumentation.
  • Serve as a technical resource for the Chemistry department by assisting with troubleshooting and resolving testing or instrumentation issues.
  • Coordinate training for new laboratory staff and support implementation of new analyzers, procedures, and workflows.
  • Oversee proficiency testing, competency assessments, and quality control review processes.
  • Monitor QC data and maintenance records, escalating concerns and collaborating with laboratory leadership on corrective actions.
  • Assist with specialized studies, reagent management, instrument validation, and calibration activities.
  • Act as a liaison between laboratory staff, technical leadership, and management to ensure effective communication and workflow.
  • Provide outstanding service to physicians, clients, and healthcare partners while maintaining regulatory compliance.
  • Support continuous improvement initiatives and perform additional laboratory duties as needed.

What You'll Bring:

  • Associate's or Bachelor's degree in Medical Laboratory Science or a related laboratory science field.
  • ASCP certification (MLT or MLS/MT), or equivalent certification, required.
  • Minimum of one year of clinical chemistry laboratory experience.
  • Demonstrated leadership potential or previous lead experience preferred.
  • Strong troubleshooting, critical thinking, and problem-solving abilities.
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills.
  • Ability to work independently while supporting a collaborative laboratory team.
