Position Summary

The Lab Assistant II, Bioanalytical, will report to the Director, Bioanalytical, and will participate in the general lab operations and sample management activities in support of AskBio programs. This is an on-site lab-based position in Morrisville, NC and prior experience with a laboratory information management system (LIMS) for sample management, accessioning, and tracking is required. The ideal candidate would have experience assisting in laboratory operations to facilitate lab-based personnel, including equipment calibration, lab ordering, and maintenance of lab supplies. Candidates will also have the opportunity to contribute to expanding the capabilities of the internal LIMS system. Knowledge of gene therapy and prior experience in a regulated lab space is preferred but not required.

This position is on site in RTP, NC and will report to the Director, Bioanalysis.

Job Responsibilities

  • Receive, accession, and manage samples using laboratory information management system (LIMS)

  • Identify, sort, and organize samples from LIMS in preparation for downstream analysis by scientific staff

  • Coordinate sample requests, manage confirmation of sample receipt, and resolve sample discrepancies with external vendors in collaboration with internal stakeholders

  • Prepare samples for archiving based on internal standard operating procedures (SOPs) and regulations

  • Maintain inventories and/or place orders of reagents and materials needed for internal projects to support timely execution of lab work

  • Ensure lab areas are clean and organized, and that equipment, supplies, and raw materials are available for use

  • Receive internal shipments and ensure delivery to scientific team members to maintain chain of custody

  • Assist in maintaining, organizing, and coordinating routine maintenance and calibration scheduling of laboratory equipment including temperature control units

  • Build and maintain static and variable master data within LabVantage LIMS

  • Maintain critical data and metadata within LabVantage LIMS, including but not limited to Consumables, Electronic Worksheets, Test Methods and support post-implementation optimization and continuous improvement efforts

Minimum Requirements

  • Bachelor's degree in biology, chemistry, or related field with 1 year of relevant work experience OR High School Diploma and 5+ years of relevant work experience

  • Prior experience working in an industry lab setting and familiarity with lab consumables and common reagents

  • Ability to multitask among multiple projects and teams, and work in a fast-paced, highly interactive environment

  • Self-motivated, organized, and capable of troubleshooting independently

  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite (Word, Excel, PowerPoint)

  • Excellent communication skills with ability to collaborate with colleagues across multiple communication platforms including e-mail, Microsoft Teams, and Sharepoint sites

Preferred Education, Experience and Skills

  • Prior work in a regulated lab environment

  • Hands-on experience with LIMS sample management including sample accessioning, management, and maintenance of chain of custody

  • Relevant knowledge and industrial experience with gene therapy, including AAV and/or lentiviral-based platforms
