Position Summary

As a Lab Assistant, responsibilities include managing stock levels, adjusting orders for project needs, ensuring safety protocols, collaborating with R&D team members, utilizing ticketing systems for support and inventory management, maintaining equipment, providing technical support to end-users, assisting with equipment purchases and calibration, and contributing to R&D initiatives. Building strong relationships with inter-departmental teams and external vendors is also essential for success in this role.

This position is based in Morrisville, NC.

Job Responsibilities

  • Manage and support three distinct labs across multiple sites, ensuring lab areas are clean and well organized

  • Mange and support standard ordering practices, keeping up with stock levels as well as recognizing when adjustments need to be made due to project needs

  • Proficient in routine lab work such as cell culture, mycoplasma testing, and plasmid preparation

  • Be a leader for safety protocols in the lab

  • Collaborate with R&D team members to contribute to the team's knowledge-sharing culture

  • Utilize ticketing systems such as Jira to request, track, and prioritize support, shipping, and inventory tickets, ensuring timely resolution and effective communication with end-users

  • Manage and support maintenance of lab equipment

  • Provide first-line technical support to end-users, including troubleshooting equipment, hardware, software, and system issues

  • Assist with new equipment purchases and calibration services

  • Receive internal shipments and ensure delivery to scientific team members to maintain chain of custody

  • Collaborate and maintain good relationships with inter-departmental teams and external vendors

  • Participate in R&D projects and initiatives, contributing insights and expertise to improve R&D infrastructure and service delivery

Minimum Requirements

  • Bachelor's degree in biology, chemistry, or related field; OR High School Diploma with 4+ years of relevant work experience

  • Prior experience working in an industry lab setting and familiarity with lab consumables and common reagents

  • Ability to multitask among multiple projects and teams, and work in a fast-paced, highly interactive environment

  • Self-motivated, organized, and capable of troubleshooting independently

  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite

  • Excellent communication skills with ability to collaborate with colleagues across multiple communication platforms including e-mail, Microsoft Teams, and SharePoint sites

Preferred Education, Experience and Skills

  • Relevant knowledge and industrial experience with gene therapy, including AAV and/or lentiviral-based platforms

  • Experience running routine lab assays such as cell culture, mycoplasma testing, and plasmid preparations

  • Familiar with REES monitoring system for lab equipment
