Job Description

Lab Accessioners ensure the accurate intake, processing, and management of DNA testing cases, maintaining compliance with chain-of-custody requirements and client expectations. They are responsible for opening samples, comparing information, addressing concerns, solving problems, and entering client data correctly into the Laboratory Information System to ensure that every case is successfully completed. They must have excellent data entry skills, be detail oriented, and organized. This position plays a vital role in ensuring timely process of samples, from receipt to final reporting.

Essential Duties & Responsibilities

  • Process and verify incoming sample packages, ensuring chain of custody and package integrity
  • Accurately input and audit patient and contract information into the Laboratory Information System 
  • Manage case assignments, track progress, and determine case resolution and closure.
  • Identifies complete and partial cases, following established procedures for processing.
  • Prepare and send final reports, chain-of-custody documents, and affidavits in a timely manner.
  • Input partial billing information
  • Coordinating and providing service that is timely, effective, efficient, equitable, and client-centered
  • Meet or exceed productivity targets, ensuring timely case processing and resolution.
  • Prepare Affidavits
  • Notarize case documents as required (limited).
  • Collaborate with internal departments, including Laboratory Operations and Customer Service, to facilitate case resolution.
  • Attend team meetings and training sessions to stay updated on policies and procedures.
  • Other duties as assigned or become evident
Qualifications
  • One (1) to two (2) years previous data entry experience preferred
  • High School diploma/GED required
  • Ability to prioritize workload and meet production goals in a high-volume environment.
  • Computer literacy in Microsoft Office and typing skills are required
  • Strong ability to multi-task while maintaining accuracy and compliance.
  • Strong problem-solving skills and ability to escalate issues effectively.
  • Knowledge of record-keeping and chain-of-custody protocols is a plus.
  • Self-motivated and the ability to work with minimal supervision; must also be able to work as part of a team.
  • Ability to manage multiple tasks and remain flexible to changing priorities
  • Ability to maintain strict confidentiality of sensitive client information.

Physical Requirements

  • Prolonged periods of sitting at a desk and working on a computer.
  • Communicating with others to exchange information.
  • Must be able to lift up to 15 pounds at a time.
  • Manual dexterity to handle, label, and file samples and paperwork.
  • Standing, walking, stooping, and kneeling to accomplish tasks and transport samples from accessioning area to Laboratory.
