Job description

Position Summary

The primary functions of an assistant manager are to coordinate and assist with activities of employees engaged in loading, transferring, and operating equipment in distribution yard.


Duties & Responsibilities

  • Assists with meeting the profit goals for the yard
  • Assists the yard manager with opportunities for improving net profit
  • Maintains key relationships with customers
  • Assists with negotiating pricing to customers and communicates with new customers
  • Assists credit with overdue accounts receivable
  • Ensures that pricing is set
  • Reaches out to new customers and follows up on sale leads
  • Assists with post stock audit program and communicates results to customers
  • Resolves customer complaints about stocking and product quality
  • Negotiate with vendors, orders board and materials within general company purchasing guidelines
  • Maintains appropriate inventory levels in yard and controls shrinkage
  • Assists with accurate input and confirms sales orders, jobs information and reports that support sales order entry process
  • Ensures that yard staffing meets delivery needs
  • Assists with proper maintenance and equipment protection program
  • Attends monthly meetings to ensure everything is going accordingly
  • Ensures yard safety procedures are being followed


Basic Qualifications

  • Bachelor's Degree preferred
  • Minimum of 3-5 years of related work experience
  • Demonstrated knowledge of all warehouse operational tasks

Physical Requirements

  • Must be able to remain in a stationary position 50% of the time.
  • Will frequently move about inside the office and distribution centers.
  • Must be able to operate basic office machinery.
  • Must be able to communicate with team and management and be able to exchange accurate information in these situations.
  • Constantly working in office and warehouse environment
  • Must be able to identify safety and maintenance concerns
  • Must be able to work long hours if need be
