What does a Knowledge Base Content Manager do?

A Knowledge Base Content Manager is responsible for creating, organizing, and maintaining a company's knowledge base, which is a centralized repository of information such as FAQs, guides, and troubleshooting articles. They ensure that content is accurate, up-to-date, and easily accessible to both customers and internal teams. This role often involves collaborating with subject matter experts, analyzing user feedback to identify content gaps, and implementing best practices for knowledge management. Their work helps improve customer support efficiency and empowers users to find answers quickly.

What are the key skills and qualifications needed to thrive as a Knowledge Base Content Manager?

To thrive as a Knowledge Base Content Manager, you need expertise in content creation, information architecture, and a background in technical writing or communications, often supported by a relevant degree. Familiarity with content management systems (CMS), knowledge management platforms like Zendesk or Confluence, and SEO best practices is typically required. Strong attention to detail, excellent communication, and collaboration skills help ensure content is clear, accurate, and accessible to diverse audiences. These skills are essential for maintaining a reliable knowledge resource that empowers both customers and internal teams to find information efficiently.

How does a Knowledge Base Content Manager typically collaborate with subject matter experts (SMEs) to ensure accuracy and relevance of content?

A Knowledge Base Content Manager works closely with subject matter experts (SMEs) by conducting regular interviews, content reviews, and feedback sessions to gather up-to-date information and insights. This collaboration ensures that all articles and documentation are technically accurate, comprehensive, and aligned with current processes or products. Managers often facilitate review cycles where SMEs validate content before publication and may also organize training sessions to help SMEs contribute effectively. This ongoing partnership is crucial for maintaining a high-quality, reliable knowledge base that meets the needs of both internal teams and customers.

Let's Do great things-Together

At Shive-Hattery, we believe great design starts with great people. We're a full-service architecture and engineering firm with a legacy of collaboration, innovation, and putting people first, our clients and each other. If you're looking for a place where your ideas matter and your growth is supported, you'll feel at home here.

Why This Role Matters

As a BIM Content Manager - Mechanical/Electrical with 5-10 years of experience you'll play a key role in supporting the firm and shaping projects that make a difference-from concept through completion. You'll collaborate with talented teammates, contribute your expertise, and help us deliver thoughtful, high-quality solutions for those we serve.

What You'll Doย

  • Build the Revit content and standards that empower design teams to deliver consistent, high-quality models-faster and with fewer rework cycles.
  • Own the Mechanical/Electrical BIM content library (Revit families, templates, parameters, and documentation)
  • Set the standard for content quality, naming, and data consistency across project models
  • Improve how teams work by creating and refining workflows that make content easier to find, use, and maintain
  • Enable teams through training, guidance, and fast troubleshooting support
  • Protect reliability with version control, change tracking, and a well-managed catalog
  • Create, standardize, and maintain high-quality BIM content (Revit families) and templates.
  • Design and refine workflows that improve content adoption and keep project models consistent.
  • Champion BIM standards to ensure clean, consistent, and reliable model data.
  • Support and train design teams on best practices for content creation and usage.
  • Maintain the content catalog with clear documentation, version control, and release notes.

Requirements

You don't need to check every box to succeed here. If your experience aligns with many of the items below and you're excited about the work we do, we encourage you to apply.

  • Associate degree in CAD Technology (or equivalent experience).
  • 5-10 years of experience supporting BIM content, standards, or production (Revit-focused).
  • No license/certification required.
  • Working knowledge of Autodesk Revit and AutoCAD (Mechanical/Electrical focus preferred). Proficiency with Microsoft Office and general computer literacy.
  • Comfort troubleshooting Revit/BIM issues and supporting users under deadline.
  • Valid driver's license and reliable transportation (as required for travel between offices/job sites).

What will make you stand outย

  • Strong collaboration and communication skills (verbal and written).
  • High attention to detail and commitment to content/model quality.
  • Advanced Revit expertise (family creation, parameters, shared parameters) and strong CAD fundamentals.
  • Familiarity with BIM/content standards and data practices (e.g., naming conventions, parameter governance).

Our Commitment to You

Great work happens when you feel secure in your future, confident in your support, and trusted to grow. That's why our benefits support your health, financial stability, and life beyond work - including medical, dental and vision coverage, paid time off and holidays, 401(k) retirement savings, disability protection, wellness incentives, and flexibility. When we succeed, you share in that success. Guided by truth, trust, mentoring, and care, we're committed to helping you build a lasting career.
