Surgical AssistantSummary:

The Southeast Permanente Medical Group (TSPMG) is one of Georgia's largest independent, physician-owned, multi-specialty medical groups. More than 700 physicians and 300 associate practitioners work together in a unique integrated care model to provide high-quality care to Kaiser Permanente members.

Our focus is on long-term health, effective prevention, diagnosis and treatment of disease. Care is delivered across 40+ specialties at 26 medical offices featuring state-of-the-art equipment, labs, imaging services, and pharmacies. We also provide surgical services and around-the-clock care at some of the area's top hospitals.

We invite applications for a Surgical Assistant to assist our Surgeons at one of our three main surgical locations:

  • Emory Saint Joseph's Hospital
  • Emory Decatur Hospital
  • Atlanta Outpatient Surgical Center
What You Can Expect:
  • Provides technical assistance to the surgeon in completing surgical procedures safely and expeditiously
  • Checks the daily surgery schedule with the O.R., the Kaiser surgery scheduler, or the surgeon
  • Reviews patient chart to obtain patient history and physical, verify consent, and confirm procedure
  • Checks with the O.R. staff to answer questions about the surgery procedure or any special equipment needed
  • Transfers patient from stretcher to O.R. table
  • Assists during induction of anesthesia
  • Participates in "Time Out" or "Pause" to verify correct consent, patient, date of birth, procedure, and surgeon
  • Preps and drapes patient
  • Cleans patient and applies proper dressing at the end of procedure
  • Transfers patient from O.R. table to stretcher for transport to recovery
Minimum Requirements:
  • Graduate of an accredited program in Surgical Assisting recognized by the Commission of Accreditation of Allied Health Education Programs (CAAHEP)
  • Certification in a Professional Association that certifies Surgical Assistants (SA's), including:
    • National Board of Surgical Technology and Surgical Assisting (NBSTA)
    • Association of Surgical Assistants (ASA)
    • National Surgical Assistant Association (NSAA)
    • American Board of Surgical Assistants (ABSA)
  • General knowledge of OSHA rules and regulations as they pertain to biohazards
  • General knowledge of hospital procedures and principles
  • Must be a full-time resident of the state of Georgia
  • BLS Certification
