Job Description

Intermediate Electrical Engineer is a professional engineering role based in Calgary, AB, Canada, supporting the planning, design, and implementation of electrical systems for infrastructure and airport-related projects. The position operates within a multidisciplinary project environment and contributes to the delivery of electrical engineering solutions across various stages of the project lifecycle, including detailed design, documentation, coordination, and technical review.

The role is responsible for developing engineering drawings, specifications, reports, and technical deliverables while ensuring alignment with applicable codes, standards, and regulatory requirements. Collaboration with architects, civil engineers, and other technical disciplines is required to integrate electrical systems into complex infrastructure programs.

The ideal candidate brings more than four years of electrical engineering experience, professional engineering registration in Canada, and exposure to infrastructure, aviation, building, or transportation projects. Experience with electrical distribution, lighting, and related facility systems is considered valuable.

Key Responsibilities

  • Perform electrical design and implementation activities for infrastructure and airport projects.
  • Prepare and maintain design documentation, technical specifications, engineering calculations, and project reports.
  • Coordinate multidisciplinary engineering design activities with architects, civil engineers, and other technical stakeholders.
  • Conduct design reviews to support integration of electrical systems within broader project requirements.
  • Provide technical guidance and engineering oversight to junior engineers and design staff.
  • Ensure compliance with regulatory requirements, applicable electrical codes, industry standards, and project specifications.
  • Participate in stakeholder coordination meetings with clients, project teams, and external partners.
  • Contribute to the development, review, and continuous improvement of engineering standards, templates, and departmental procedures.
  • Support technical reporting and engineering recommendations throughout project delivery.
Qualifications

Required

  • Bachelor's degree in Electrical Engineering.
  • Professional Engineer (P.Eng.) designation in good standing with APEGA (Association of Professional Engineers and Geoscientists of Alberta).
  • Minimum 4+ years of electrical engineering experience.
  • Experience supporting infrastructure and/or airport-sector projects.
  • Strong knowledge of the Canadian Electrical Code (CEC) and applicable local and international electrical standards.
  • Experience developing electrical engineering designs, technical specifications, and engineering reports.
  • Strong communication, stakeholder engagement, and interpersonal skills.
  • Ability to mentor junior staff and contribute to project delivery activities.
  • Demonstrated project coordination and project management capabilities.
  • Experience using AutoCAD; familiarity with electrical design software.

Assets

  • Knowledge of sustainability initiatives and energy-efficient design practices.
  • Familiarity with airport security systems, control systems, and associated technologies.
  • Experience with Airfield Lighting Control and Management Systems (ALCMS).
  • Experience with airfield lighting and electrical distribution systems.
  • Experience with field electrical centers and electrical buildings.
  • Experience supporting electric vehicle (EV) charging infrastructure projects.
  • Experience with building electrical systems design and delivery.
