ABOUT THE POSITION

Structural Designer - Engineer (Bridge and Transportation) | Hybrid

VHB's structural engineering group plays a vital role in enhancing connectivity through infrastructure projects such as complex bridge and interchange designs, rehabilitation and inspection, pedestrian walkways, and transit stations. This diverse range of structural engineering services helps improve mobility for the traveling public.

VHB's dynamic Massachusetts group is looking to add Structural design/engineers to its expanding and innovative team! This is an exciting opportunity to work on diverse and impactful projects across the region. Utilize state-of-the-art tools and technologies to design and develop transformative transportation/ infrastructure solutions.

Responsibilities

  • Work on major bridge and other complex transportation projects
  • Provide technical support/mentorship to junior structural engineering staff
  • Perform oversight of engineering design for bridges and other transportation infrastructure
  • Prepare construction documents, including plans, specifications, estimates and calculation.
  • Perform quality control reviews of project construction documents, engineering reports, etc.

Skills and Attributes

  • Self-motivated with excellent attention to detail
  • AutoCAD Civil 3D experience
  • Must possess strong project management and technical skills
  • Excellent verbal, written and interpersonal communication skills
  • Familiarity with bridge design and detailing (steel, concrete, prestressed concrete) and seismic analysis
  • Familiarity with Mathcad and Excel for developing calculations packages.
  • Familiarity with structural engineering software (AASHTOware, LARSA 4D, MDX, midas Bridge, Mathcad, etc.)

Qualifications

  • Minimum of 3-5 years' experience in Bridge/Transportation projects required
  • B.S. Civil Engineering (1-2 years may be substituted for a Master's degree)
  • EIT expected, PE license or ability to obtain within 12 months preferred.

Our best estimate of the salary range for this position located in Boston/Watertown, MA is $90,000-110,000.The final compensation will be based on a variety of factors such as individual qualifications, education, and experience.
