Junior Smart Contract Developer information

What is a junior smart contract developer?

Junior Smart Contract Developers are entry-level professionals who specialize in writing, testing, and deploying smart contracts—self-executing programs that run on blockchain platforms like Ethereum. They typically work under the supervision of senior developers, helping to build decentralized applications (dApps), audit code, and ensure the security and efficiency of smart contracts. Junior developers often use programming languages such as Solidity and gain hands-on experience with blockchain development tools. Their role is crucial in supporting projects that rely on secure and reliable automated transactions.

What types of projects and responsibilities can a junior smart contract developer expect in their first year?

As a Junior Smart Contract Developer, you can expect to work on writing, testing, and deploying smart contracts—typically under the guidance of more senior developers. Early responsibilities often include auditing existing code for security vulnerabilities, updating documentation, and contributing to open-source projects or internal tooling. You’ll also collaborate closely with blockchain engineers, product managers, and sometimes front-end teams to ensure seamless integration of smart contracts with decentralized applications. This role offers excellent opportunities to learn from code reviews, participate in team sprints, and gradually take on more complex tasks as you build expertise.

What are the key skills and qualifications needed to thrive as a junior smart contract developer, and why are they important?

To thrive as a Junior Smart Contract Developer, you need a solid understanding of blockchain fundamentals, programming skills in languages like Solidity, and a relevant degree or coding bootcamp experience. Familiarity with development tools such as Truffle, Hardhat, and version control systems like Git, as well as basic knowledge of Ethereum and Web3.js, is typically required. Attention to detail, problem-solving abilities, and effective communication help you excel in collaborative and rapidly evolving tech environments. These skills are crucial to ensuring secure, efficient, and reliable smart contract development within blockchain projects.

What is the difference between Junior Smart Contract Developer vs Blockchain Developer?

AspectJunior Smart Contract DeveloperBlockchain Developer

Job description

Reports To: Mechanical Principal-in-Charge
Location: Minneapolis, MN | Hybrid for Local Candidates
Anticipated Starting Salary: $90,000.00 - $140,000.00/yr
Design Smarter. Deliver Better. Grow Here.
At Steen Engineering, we believe engineering is more than just calculations - it's problem-solving with purpose. As a Mechanical Engineer Level 3, you'll be entrusted with projects that demand both technical rigor and strong relationship-building. You'll lead teams, collaborate closely with architects and contractors, and help shape systems that make a lasting difference in the spaces where people live, work, and thrive. If you're looking to evolve your technical expertise and grow into a business leader - this is the place.
The Role at a Glance
This role is ideal for a licensed or license-track mechanical engineer with 7-20 years of experience and a readiness to own projects and foster client relationships. You'll serve as a project manager, coordinating all aspects of MEP design across diverse market sectors, while also mentoring junior teammates and identifying new opportunities for Steen to serve and shine.
Candidate is expected to have solid design experience with central plant design, hydraulic pumping systems, economic analysis, industrial ventilation, building automation and HVAC control sequences.
What You'll Do
  • Lead project design and execution-from kickoff through construction administration.
  • Serve as the client's trusted point of contact for project updates, problem-solving, and progress to plan.
  • Meet with owners, architects, and engineers to define project needs and system requirements.
  • Develop schematic design concepts.
  • Oversee and verify load calculations, system layouts, details and specifications.
  • Review, mark up, and produce detailed construction documents using Revit, AutoCAD, and Bluebeam.
  • Manage scope, schedule, and resources, escalating potential overages as needed.
  • Lead peer review and QA processes to ensure every set meets the meticulous standards of The Steen Way.
  • Perform site visits and field observations to ensure systems are being implemented as designed.
  • Build and maintain client relationships that result in new business opportunities.

What You Bring
  • A degree in Mechanical Engineering.
  • 7-20 years of experience in mechanical and plumbing design or project management.
  • Proficiency in Revit, AutoCAD, Bluebeam, Office 365, and load software (e.g., Carrier HAP, Trane Trace).
  • Strong understanding of applicable codes, standards, and construction practices.
  • Exceptional communication skills and the ability to build trust with teammates, clients and partners.
  • A curious mind, a humble attitude, and a sharp eye for detail.
  • A mindset that aligns with our core team values - Humble, Hardworking and Smart - that means checking our ego at the door, digging in together to make it work, and delivering the smart, sensible solutions our clients know and love us for.

What Makes Steen Different?
We're big believers in people over titles, growth over perfection, and partnership over ego. At Steen, engineers are empowered to:
  • Grow into leaders with real mentorship and autonomy.
  • Design with purpose on projects that get built and make a difference.
  • Stay grounded in a collaborative, family-style culture that puts people first.
  • Be proud of your work-and the team standing behind it.

Apply today and grow your career the Steen Way.
