Position Summary:
The Senior IT Business Analyst plays a critical role in aligning business needs with technology solutions, driving process improvement, and supporting successful delivery of enterprise systems and digital initiatives. This role requires strong analytical expertise, stakeholder leadership, and the ability to translate complex business and technical needs into actionable requirements. The Senior IT Business Analyst will lead discovery efforts, partner closely with business and IT teams, and help guide solution decisions that improve operational performance and business outcomes.

Business Analysis & Strategy:
  • Lead end-to-end business analysis for complex IT initiatives, ensuring solutions align with organizational goals, business needs, and technology standards.
  • Conduct deep dive analysis to identify business problems, improvement opportunities, and strategic recommendations.
  • Develop business cases, cost-benefit analyses, and solution recommendations to support technology investment and prioritization decisions.
  • Facilitate visioning sessions, roadmap planning, and strategic workshops with senior stakeholders.

Leadership Requirements:
  • Lead requirements elicitation using interviews, workshops, process reviews, and data analysis.
  • Translate business needs into clear user stories, functional requirements, process requirements, and acceptance criteria for IT and business teams.
  • Create process maps, workflow diagrams, and conceptual models to support solution design.
  • Ensure requirements traceability throughout the project lifecycle.

Stakeholder & Cross Functional Leadership:
  • Serve as the primary liaison between business units, IT, vendors, and leadership teams to ensure shared understanding of priorities, requirements, and solution outcomes.
  • Manage stakeholder expectations, negotiate priorities, and drive consensus across diverse groups.
  • Present findings, recommendations, and solution options to executives and project sponsors.

Project & Delivery Support:
  • Partner with project managers, product owners, and technical teams to define scope, timelines, dependencies, and delivery plans for IT initiatives.
  • Support Agile ceremonies (backlog refinement, sprint planning, reviews) or Waterfall milestones as needed.
  • Validate solutions through testing support, UAT coordination, and post implementation reviews.
  • Monitor KPIs and performance metrics to ensure solutions deliver expected value.

Leadership & Mentoring:
  • Provide guidance and mentorship to junior analysts and team members.
  • Establish best practices, templates, and standards for business analysis activities.
  • Lead by example in communication, documentation quality, and stakeholder engagement.

Core Skills:
  • Strong analytical and critical thinking skills with the ability to solve complex business problems.
  • Exceptional communication skills - able to translate technical concepts for non-technical audiences.
  • Expertise in business process modeling, requirements documentation, and analysis of enterprise applications, systems, and integrations.
  • Proven ability to lead cross functional teams and influence without authority.
  • Strong understanding of SDLC methodologies, enterprise application delivery, and Agile, Scrum, or Waterfall project environments.
  • Proficiency with business analysis and collaboration tools such as Visio, Smartsheet, Jira, Excel, and reporting or BI platforms.

Minimum Qualifications:

  • 5-8 or more years of business analysis experience, including substantial experience supporting IT systems, enterprise applications, or digital transformation initiatives.
  • Demonstrated success delivering large scale or high complexity projects.
  • Experience working with technical teams, application owners, vendors, and executive stakeholders to implement and enhance business technology solutions.

Desired Qualifications:
  • Professional certifications (CBAP, PMI PBA, Scrum Master) are a plus.
  • Experience in process improvement methodologies (Lean, Six Sigma).
  • Familiarity with data analysis tools (SQL, Power BI, Tableau).
  • Experience in the energy efficiency or utility industry is preferred.
  • Experience with change management and organizational readiness.
