Job description

As part of Risk Management and Compliance, you are at the center of keeping JPMorgan Chase strong and resilient. You help the firm grow its business in a responsible way by anticipating new and emerging risks, and using your expert judgement to solve real-world challenges that impact our company, customers and communities.  Our culture in Risk Management and Compliance is all about thinking outside the box, challenging the status quo and striving to be best-in-class

As a Lead Credit Officer - Commercial and Specialized Industries (Vice President) in Commercial and Specialized Industries Risk, you will provide credit leadership across a diversified portfolio of U.S.-based middle-market clients (approximately $20MM-$500MM in revenue) supported by dedicated coverage teams. You will underwrite and structure new transactions, manage renewals and amendments, and maintain strong credit quality and reporting metrics. You'll work with urgency and diplomacy across partners to progress deals, protect the firm, and support responsible client growth-while contributing to broader team initiatives and talent development.

 Job Responsibilities

  • Utilize excellent credit analysis skills to analyze and structure new transactions and work independently on the assigned credit portfolio; appropriately assess risks and mitigants, balance risk and reward, diligently manage renewals, amendments and new transactions, and maintain acceptable credit reporting metrics.
  • Structure facilities and risk mitigants (e.g., covenants, collateral, guarantees, reporting requirements) to align with risk appetite and client needs.
  • Manage an assigned credit portfolio independently, including renewals, amendments, and ongoing monitoring.
  • Assess risk/reward tradeoffs and recommend credit outcomes grounded in sound analysis and policy alignment.
  • Form independent credit views and communicate them clearly, concisely, and confidently to partners and senior leadership.
  • Identify emerging risks, negative trends, or documentation issues and escalate appropriately with proposed actions.
  • Coordinate proactively with internal stakeholders (bankers, product partners, legal, deal teams) to keep transactions moving and meet deadlines.
  • Maintain strong credit hygiene, including timely approvals, accurate documentation, and acceptable credit reporting metrics.
  • Partner with coverage teams to support fulsome client relationships while maintaining disciplined, objective risk oversight.
  • Contribute to process improvement, efficiency initiatives, and cross-team projects that strengthen the Risk organization.
  • Develop junior talent through coaching, feedback, and knowledge-sharing on analysis, policy, and best practices.

Required Qualifications, Capabilities, and Skills

  • Bachelor's degree (BA/BS/BBA) required; coursework or foundation in accounting and finance.
  • 5+ years of commercial banking/lending experience with extensive credit analysis responsibility.
  • Completion of a major corporate/commercial bank credit training program or equivalent corporate banking/corporate finance experience.
  • Thorough knowledge of bank credit policies, procedures, and disciplined underwriting standards.
  • Demonstrated ability to independently analyze, structure, and manage credit exposures across a portfolio.
  • Strong accounting and finance skills, including interpreting financial statements, cash flow, leverage, liquidity, and key credit metrics.
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills, including the ability to defend a position with senior stakeholders.
  • Proven partnership skills-able to collaborate constructively with internal and external stakeholders while maintaining appropriate independence.
  • Strong judgment and problem-solving, with the ability to assess risk mitigants and propose practical solutions.
  • Exceptional organization and project management, able to manage competing priorities under tight deadlines.
  • High initiative and self-direction, with the ability to perform effectively under pressure and with a sense of urgency.

Preferred Qualifications, Capabilities, and Skills

  • Experience supporting diversified industries and evaluating industry-specific risks for middle-market companies.
  • Exposure to investment banking products and/or leveraged credit structures used by commercial clients.
  • Demonstrated leadership in process improvement, credit discipline initiatives, or portfolio/risk analytics enhancements.
  • Comfort influencing across matrixed stakeholders (coverage, product, legal, and risk partners) to drive timely execution.
  • Experience mentoring or formally coaching junior teammates in credit analysis and underwriting practices.
