Job description

The PACS Administrator serves as the technical lead and subject matter expert for PACS/RIS and
imaging applications at Island Health. This role is responsible for the operation, configuration,
maintenance, troubleshooting, integration, security, and optimization of imaging systems to
support reliable clinical workflows and 24/7 system availability.
This position partners closely with Diagnostic Imaging, Information Systems, vendors, providers,
and other clinical stakeholders to support imaging system performance, modality integration, user
access, training, compliance, and continuous improvement. The role does not have direct
supervisory responsibility but provides technical guidance, coordination, and support across
departments.
Location: Anacortes, WA
Schedule: Full Time / Days
Salary Range: $85,592. - $128,398 annually

What you will be doing:
1. Maintains PACS/RIS and related imaging applications to ensure system uptime,
availability, and reliable day-to-day operations.
2. Monitors system queues, backups, study flow, image routing, and system performance to
identify and resolve issues in a timely manner.
3. Troubleshoots studies, reports, interfaces, and system errors impacting imaging workflows,
clinical access, or data integrity.
4. Maintains PACS workstations and related imaging equipment in collaboration with
Information Systems, Diagnostic Imaging, vendors, and other support teams.
5. Provides 24/7 on-call support as part of a scheduled rotation and escalates critical system
issues through appropriate channels.
  • Maintains accurate documentation of system design, configuration, maintenance activities, issues, inventory, and system changes.
  • Serves as the primary vendor contact for PACS/RIS service and support, including issue resolution, SLA monitoring, upgrades, and contract support.
  • Acts as a liaison between Diagnostic Imaging, Information Systems, vendors, providers, and external healthcare entities regarding imaging system needs and issue resolution.
  • Provides technical support, training, onboarding, and refresher education to radiologic technologists, physicians, clinical users, and support staff.
  • Supports leadership with budgeting, planning, system maintenance needs, and imaging technology evaluation.
  • Performs other related duties as assigned.

What you will bring to the role:
  • Minimum of 5 years of imaging, PACS, radiology applications, clinical systems, or related healthcare technology experience.
  • Experience working with information systems related to Imaging Services.
  • Knowledge of diagnostic imaging workflows, clinical operations, PACS/RIS functionality, and EHR integration.
  • Working knowledge of DICOM, HL7, modality worklists, image routing, user access, and imaging system troubleshooting.
  • Strong analytical, project coordination, training, decision-making, and problem-solving skills.
  • Ability to work independently, prioritize competing demands, and provide professional customer service in a clinical environment.
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills with the ability to collaborate across clinical, technical, vendor, and leadership teams.
  • Ability to participate in 24/7 on-call support rotation.
  • Preferred • bachelor's degree in information systems, healthcare, imaging sciences, or related field; equivalent combination of education and experience may be considered. • ARRT certification.
  • Certified Imaging Informatics Professional (CIIP).
  • PACS/RIS vendor certification or formal imaging informatics training.
  • Experience with Meditech or other EHR systems.
  • Experience supporting system upgrades, modality implementations, downtime planning, and clinical application integrations.
